User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.0.1) Gecko/2008070206 Firefox/3.0.1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.0.1) Gecko/2008070206 Firefox/3.0.1 If you give Firefox the path to an iCal .ics file on your disk (e.g. file://Users/person/Desktop/calendar.ics) it will not launch the file in iCal. Instead it will display the contents of the file in the browser as text. Files of this type are correctly handled if loaded via http (like accessing it from your local web sharing folder), just not via a file path. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Place iCal .ics file somewhere on your disk. 2. Enter the file's address in Firefox's location bar. Actual Results: The contents of the file is displayed as text within the browser. Expected Results: The file should be handled by iCal.
I think you're running into an intentional security decision, please see bug 401343. Marking as a dupe to that bug, feel free to reopen if you have a reason for lowering that security restriction.
