User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-GB; rv:1.9.0.1) Gecko/2008070208 Firefox/3.0.1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-GB; rv:1.9.0.1) Gecko/2008070208 Firefox/3.0.1
I add a bookmark to the bookmark bar, it's there. I can click it to go to the page i bookmarked. When i close firefox and open it again, they disappeared.
Happens everytime. This is a new vista install and has been this way since I installed firefox for the first time on this install.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Add bookmark
2.Close firefox
3.Open firefox
Actual Results:
Bookmarks gone.
Expected Results:
Bookmarks should still be there :)

I'm running Firefox 3.0.1 on an XP machine not Vista as shown in the original complaint. I get the exact same result on my XP machine. It started happening about a week ago. It may be related to the number of bookmarks already entered. I can count how many I have if that is important.

Do you use Norton on your system ?
No, AVG but it was happening before i installed that and happens when i disable it too.

I have found a work around. If I enter the Organize Bookmarks selection under the Bookmarks tab then select Import and Backup and actually save a backup, then my Bookmarks are saved as they should be. If I don't do this after creating new bookmarks, then they are lost if I exit Firefox as Ian Corne points out... Bob

please check in about:config if importBookmarksHTML is set to true, and set to false if that's the case. report results here.

I had the same problem on Linux. The importBookmarksHTML was set to true. Switching to false fixed it.

My About:config goes from "images.dither" to "intl.accept_languages" and does not have "importBookmarksHTML".

Check that you have not entered some text in "Filter:" above in the page, try putting "import" as the filter, and you should see it.
browser.places.importBookmarksHTML;false

Found it at "browser.places.importBookmarksHTML;true" and changed it to "false". Certainly now saves bookmarks even after close Firefox and reopen. Presume therefore that it will also save the bookmarks after computer restart. Many thanks, this saved the workaround of backup bookmarks before closing Firefox (which I didn't always remember to do).
