SM has begun to hang whenever I try to open a file. I can't say exactly when this began, but it happens with builds with which it didn't use to, so it might be something in the interaction between SM and my system.
You mean File->Open File... in the Navigator window right?

'Save As' too. Plus, it's more of a long delay than a hang - I was just too impatient to wait. And this doesn't happen with, say, FF 3.0.1.
Summary: Trying to use the file open dialog causes hang → Using the OS file selection dialog causes long delay
How long a delay? (Seconds? Minutes? Hours?) On Windows XP, but with how much of a system load? (Check the displays of the Task Manager, accessible as TASKMAN.EXE or from the Ctrl+Alt+Del popup.) Is the system swapping to virtual (disk) memory a lot, or near-saturated in CPU time? From what I remember of when I was on XP, these kinds of factors can have a large influence on system throughput. Also, just for the record, please paste the user-agent string of a build with the bug, as found after "Build Ientifier:" at the bottom of the about: page.

Very little load, and anyway, a load which doesn't cause these delays with Firefox release. > Is the system swapping to virtual > (disk) memory a lot, or near-saturated in CPU time? Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1a2pre) Gecko/20080820005835 SeaMonkey/2.0a1pre Sorry for being too laconic.
OK, so it's not a true hang, but a stall of up to 2 minutes (which is still unusually long).

Can this be related to bug #490356 ?
I no longer see this happening, so I don't know. Also I don't remember seeing the symptoms mentioned in bug 490356.
WFM according to comment #7. Feel free to REOPEN if seen again in a current build (SeaMonkey 2.0.14 or later, preferably 2.1 or later).
