455144 - Firefox running but no window; new Firefox app won't load

After closing Firefox, when I click to reenter Firefox, a window comes up saying Firefox is still running. I have to use Windows Task Manager to find Firefox.exe to close it before I can run Firefox again. This has happened only since the newest version of Firefox was installed.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Random occurrence - cannot reproduce. Step 1. Close Firefox.
2. Sometime later, click to open Firefox. Occasionally, window appears saying Firefox is already running. Firefox window won't open.
3. Close Firefox.exe via Task Manager. 
Actual Results:  
Once Firefox.exe is closed via tTask Manager, there is no problem in opening Firefox and everything functions normally for a while until it randomly happens again.

Expected Results:  
Every time Firefox is closed, it should no longer be running. Click to open the browser would then open, as it always did in the previous versions.

I haven't been able to detect any pattern. I suspected that it happened after using multiple tabs, but I could not reproduce the bug consistently to confirm it. Computer configuration is standard.

Can you try to run Firefox in teh Firefox safemode:
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe+mode

Not closing on exit is often caused by addons.

This happens to me a lot when I shrink a Firefox window and leave it there for a long time. It disappears from the toolbar at the bottom, but firefox.exe is still running. I'm using XP as well. I've never seen this in OSX. I have to kill firefox.exe in Windows Task Manager and restart. I typically open one window with a lot of tabs. If I have a download window or another browsing window, they stay open, but the Window with the tabs disappears.

This is a mass search for bugs which are in the Firefox General component, are
UNCO, have not been changed for 500 days and have an unspecified version. 

Reporter, can you please update to Firefox 3.6.10 or later, create a fresh profile, http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/managing+profiles, and test again. If you still see the issue, please update this bug. If the issue is gone, please set the status to RESOLVED > WORKSFORME.

No reply from reporter, INCOMPLETE. Please retest with Firefox 3.6.12 or later and a new profile (http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Managing+profiles). If you continue to see this issue with the newest firefox and a new profile, then please comment on this bug.
