This is a regression between 2000-07-14-20 and 2000-07-13-20. To reproduce: 1. Make sure you are starting from a "clean" state; e.g., on Win32, remove Users50 directory, c:\winnt\mozregistry.dat, c:\winnt\mozver.dat. You'll need to have a 4.x profile to be migrated, as well. 2. Download Netscape commercial installer. (Not sure if this happens with Mozilla or not.) 3. Run installation, this will kick off migration, do activation, yada yada. 4. When you start mailnews, note that none of your 4.x mail/news accounts were migrated! Instead, you'll have a single mail account that is your "activated" netcenter IMAP account; e.g., "waterson2@netscape.net" for me. Expected behavior: - All 4.x mail/news accounts are migrated as well.

So, there is a new nswebmail.rdf file under defaults/isp (checked in to fix scopus bug 39475 : https://scopus.mcom.com/bugsplat/show_bug.cgi?id=39475). This file has not been packaged into commercial builds yet (I guess Alec/Tao might have forgot to add this to packages file). Presence of this file is making all activation registered users to have a partial account with the netcenter member name (say if the user name is foo...activation creates a partial account for that user with email address foo@netscape.net). So, when the messenger comes up, it recognizes this partial account and kicks of the account wizard to complete the account creation. But remember, even before the activation process is kicked off the profile has been migrated and it has all the migrated folders sitting under profile in Users50 folder. Ideally speaking when the messenger comes up, user should see mail accounts for both foo@netscape.net and <whatever user's 4x account is>. I have noticed that in the absence of file nswebmail.rdf (that means no partial account), migrated mail account is seen in the messenger (and this will be the behavior seen with builds downloaded from sweetlou as nswebmail.rdf is not packaged yet). So, the migrated account is skipping from Account Manager's radar somehow.
that file should be in the commercial builds - what confuses me is that aol.rdf is in the commercial builds and it's not specified in the packages-{win,unix,mac} and I can't figure out how it would be included... I figured there would be a line in the packages file that said something like bin\defaults\ispdata\* but I don't see any such line. basically, I think that somehow nswebmail.rdf is in fact included in the commercial build, but it definately could be confusing migration.
Are all the files from the 4.x profile in the new location? (i.e the mail folder files, news-rc files, bookmarks, addressbook, etc.) If so, this isn't a Profile Migration bug and it needs to be reassigned.
this is working for me with Mozilla bits 071708 on win32 and Mac builds. Commercial only?

Grace - do you know of a workaround until this bug is fixed? I'm getting calls on how users can get their accounts migrated currently :-)
Don't really think this is a migration bug. Working on assigning it to the right person.
alecf this sounds like your bug if according to bhuvan, deleteing the webmail rdf file, suddenly makes the accounts show up migrated again. Or did i misread what Bhuvan wrote.
I hate to just reassign a bug when I don't know exactly who's it is but this is really not a migration bug and it won't get fixed sitting on my plate. Alec, I'm reassigning it to you so you and Bhuvan can duke it out. If there's anything I can do to help just let me know.
