At the moment it isn't particularly clear which field (day/month) is for which, and different locales vary, we should improve the situation there.

I have been able to put empty text into the widget I am working on for Bug 456024 if that works. I could also put some sort of notification in the label based on what the script detects for the system settings:
Birthday (MM/DD):
Birthday (DD/MM):
I did find one problem with the empty text - I can only display one letter (M or D). MM and DD don't fit well.

Very much a wanted bug just not quite enough to block, as I think user's will soon get used to which way round the date is.

Does the patch for Bug 456024 clear this up or should we use labels in the contact view pane (ex MM/DD)?

I think this is fixed see bug #458591 for a screenshot.

I'm using TB 24 but the month and day fields are still empty. This bug doesn't seem fixed. Could someone confirm?

Yes, we have the fields, but no indications of which is which.

Today, it worked for me if I put placeholder attributes on the <input> elements internal to the <datepicker>. It even took MM and DD. Should then toolkit datepicker implementation set this up? It probably knows which position is day and which is month.

This is not an issue anymore in Thunderbird 78.
