Instead of add-ons (like NoScript) always updating when I START my browser session, could you add a user option to have them just notify me upfront, but not to do the actual update until I END the current browser session?
I think that for many of us that would be very helpful and much less intrusive. I know that in my case, I usually start FireFox with the intent of going to a specific website and doing a specific task. Having to wait thru these housekeeping chores before being able to do my actual work can get very aggravating at times.
I asked the author of the NoScript add-on about adding this capability, and he said "I tend to agree with you but, unluckily, NoScript's updates are entirely managed by the internal add-on infrastructure of the browser, therefore this should be reported as a bug/request for enhancement on https://bugzilla.mozilla.org".
Thanks for your help.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start FireFox
2. NoScript (or some other add-on) wants to do an update
3.
Actual Results:
If I don't abort the update, I have to WAIT (sometimes several minutes) for that to finish and reload Firefox before I can do my real work.
Expected Results:
I want to be able to say "Update, but do it when I'm finished".
Give me the option of whether to "update now" or to "update when closing browser".

I think is is INVALID, as there is (at least I think there is) and option, when updates are installed, to restart later. then the update will just be installed when FF is restarted when you do it. Let me check that.
Severity: normal → enhancement
Summary: Need option for add-on updates to install at END of browser session → Option to install ad-on updates at end of session

Yes, you can just close the Add-on window, and then when you close Firefox normally, and start up normally, it will apply the update. I do maybe see a purpose for having a "Restart Firefox now" and a "Not Now" button, like in the FF update notification window.

An alternative would be to download the updates while Firefox is running (so when the updates are detected) and only install them when (re)starting Firefox. There's probably already a bug about it, but I can't find it.
It would still bug the users, but less. But since bug 321789 got wontfixed, I wouldn't hope for anything better.
You can still use Update Notifier (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2098) while waiting.

It looks to me like this bug report was originally filed about not delaying the startup for downloading the update. This is a combination of bug 408546 and bug 366777 really.
