When dragging a tab the tab should follow the mouse pointer and be semi-transparent like in Firefox 3. This regressed fairly recently.

STR : just drag and drop a tab and you will see. The tab does not follow instead only little rectangle follows.

Using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; fr; rv:1.9.1b2pre) Gecko/20081019 Minefield/3.1b2pre
Flags: blocking-firefox3.1?
OS: Windows Vista → All
Adding to STR you have to click on the text (title) to get this bug. If you use an other part of the tab to DND you will get the tab moving.
Summary: Regression : when dragging a tab the tab is not moving in with the mouse pointer → Regression : when dragging a tab using the title the tab is not moving with the mouse pointer
On 3.0.3 on GNU/Linux I see a copy of the tab following the mouse cursor (not
translucent, but that's a different bug). On:

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1b2pre) Gecko/20081024
Minefield/3.1b2pre

I only get a copy of the tab following the mouse if I start dragging in the
tiny area outside of the favicon and label (to the left of the favicon or to
the right of the close button is easiest, below the label also seems to work).
If I start dragging on the favicon or label I just get what I think is the
default gtk+ drag and drop cursor (a "document" style icon). (And when I do get
the tab indicator it's actually translucent, yay).

Additionally the following error appears in the console:

Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80004002 (NS_NOINTERFACE) [nsISupports.QueryInterface]"  nsresult: "0x80004002 (NS_NOINTERFACE)"  location: "native frame :: <unknown filename> :: <TOP_LEVEL> :: line 0"  data: no]
Confirmed on the latest trunk using Vista. Translucent tab is not shown while you drag it, if you grab the title. I also see the same error in the console.

so i guess my comment from https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=389059#c11 rather belongs to this report concerning the creation date of the other bug.
and therefor it seems that the error is also exposed by other DND STRs besides dragging tabs around.
Very hard to find a regression range being that for about 6 days dragging the tab would crash the browser (ala bug 454324). However I can confirm that it worked pre new d&d api (bug 456048): 09/30/2008 - then crashes - finally broken 10/06/2008, once the crash was fixed. Probably a side-effect of the new api?
this seems to be a dupe of Bug 459790.

Well, that's the source of the error, but do we know it caused this?

Mano: is this possibly caused by bug 456048?

This seems FIXED as of bug 225680 (additionally the behavior has changed to displaying the contents of the page)!
WFM it is a drag that Firefox does not display the content of the page and the appearance of the tab.

This was fixed as of bug 225680. Although there's still an error in the console...

Even we haven't found the patch which regressed this bug it's fixed now. So removing the qawanted keyword.

Verified with Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.1b2pre) Gecko/20081125 Minefield/3.1b2pre ID:20081125020432
