User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.3) Gecko/2008092417 Firefox/3.0.3
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.3) Gecko/2008092417 Firefox/3.0.3
Typing an apostrophe ' or slash / in certain rich text areas brings up the "Quick Find" bar. It should not. This prevents me from typing contractions and is very annoying.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a Document in Google Docs or create a post in Wordpress
2. Type some text into the input box
3. Type "can't"
Actual Results:
The "Quick Find (links only)" bar will open after typing "can"
Expected Results:
Quick Find should never pop up when I am typing in a text input.
This happens in Google Docs and Wordpress, but not in the "Rich formatting" compose windows in Gmail and not in regular plain textboxes (like this bug report box). ''''''//////
This is a problem on Windows XP Home Version 2002 Service Pack 3 with Firefox 3.0.3.
This is not a problem on Ubuntu 8.04 with Firefox 3.0.3.

Do you have any extensions installed? Also, is this consistently reproducible on your machine?
(In reply to comment #1)
> Do you have any extensions installed?
No. It happens even on a blank profile with no extensions installed.
> Also, is this consistently reproducible
> on your machine?
Yes. It is consistently reproducible in the text areas in which it occurs. It always happens in Google Docs, but never happens in Gmail, for instance.
Gmail:
<body g_editable="true" hidefocus="true" class="editable tr-field" id=":g3" style="">
Docs:
<body g_editable="true" id="wys_frame" onload="DoPageLoad();" class="editor br_fix"

Try installing Firefox in a new folder (like "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox 2"). Does it help? Also, does this show up in safe mode as well?

> Also, does this show up in safe mode as well?
It did, yes.
> Try installing Firefox in a new folder (like "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
> 2"). Does it help?
Yes. I previously uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, but that did not fix it. However, uninstalling, deleting the Program Files directory, and reinstalling did fix it. Thanks.

Did you completely delete the folder, or install in a new folder? If you installed in a new folder, can you zip up the old one and upload it somewhere so we can debug it? Thanks!

First I installed in a new folder. When that worked, I uninstalled it, then moved the normal Firefox directories elsewhere so that there were none in Program Files, and reinstalled.

Yeah I can. I'll look through it and see if there are any differences myself first.
I've got this on another computer, now. How can I help debug it?
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.4) Gecko/2008102920 Firefox/3.0.4
I disabled all Add-ons in safe mode and it still happens.

Again, zip up the existing folder and install in a new folder (this fixed it before). Upload the zipped folder somewhere so that it can be analyzed. Also, did this happen after a Firefox update?
Here's the diff of the files from my original problem:
http://www.mediafire.com/?zio3z2jnknm
I used a duplicate file finder to delete any files that were identical to the working installation, so this is only files that were different from the bad installation.
I don't know when the newer problem happened, as I barely run Windows on this machine. I just noticed yesterday that it was happening here, too. I'll zip up the files.

It appears that the culprit is composer.xpt, which is probably from an older version of Firefox/Mozilla. Copying it to a new Firefox 3 installation causes the bug to instantly trigger. However, copying composer.xpt from a Seamonkey trunk build does not cause the bug to appear - only this specific version. I guess this is either a residue of an extension/plugin or an Installer bug.

I don't see this file in the working installation. Does it no longer exist?

It is not part of the default install. Actually, if you put that file into any working install, it will break the way you described.
