From bug 411929 comment 19:
We need to add a pref which enables the Satchel module to bypass the private browsing mode. This will enable us to provide a UI to allow users to always browse in private mode, but selectively enable recording their search history.
Note that this differs to bug 461748, which covers the form history part.

Satchel and form history are the same thing. What search history are you talking about? Stuff in the search bar at the top of the browser UI?

Yes. I assume that is also managed by Satchel, right?

Oh, hmm, I was thinking it was separate, but it does seem to be stored in Satchel after all. I suspect treating the two separately isn't possible.

I need to investigate this. We need this separation because the UI plan is to differentiate between them, but I'm not sure as well if it's possible at the backend level. CCing faaborg to have his word on how important this separation is.
