> Which Firewall and Antivirus Software do you use ?

I use Windows Firewall, which is always on, and I didn't install any Antivirus Software yet, but I have Ad-Aware anti-spy/adware software.
If you want to invest time we/i can help with finding the issue but we want to fix any real issues and you may have to do some simple thinks even if it works again for you because we want to fix the underlying issue. If you only want your issue fixed then you are at the wrong place.

Which type of anti spyware tools do you use and do you know if they install a permanent service ?
Can deactivate it and test if bookmarking works again ?
If not you can do additional things...

The bookmarks and the history are stored in one single file places.sqlite.
This file is in your Firefox profile.
Read http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Profiles#How_to_find_your_profile to find your profile on your hdd.

Before you start doing the next steps close Firefox and make a backup of this file. You should also make a backup from inside Firefox: organize Bookmarks, export as html file.

Do this tasks to find the reason but please don't delete files if it works again :

- First try to delete places.sqlite while Firefox is closed.
This will delete your bookmarks and history but you have a backup. Firefox will recreate this file. Now check if bookmarking works again. (start FF, bookmark pages, close FF and start it again, check bookmarks, bookmark more pages and restart FF again)

The places.sqlite is broken if it works again, if not next step:
Move the subfolder Bookmarkbackups to another place outside of the profile while firefox is closed and delete places.sqlite again.
Now start Firefox again and try to bookmark pages.
I am using Ad-Aware spyware software and it does not install a permanent service.
I try uninstalling it (I can easily install it back), but bookmarking still does not work.

When I try to create backup from inside Firefox, the "Library" is completely empty. If the Library is based on my current bookmarks, I already deleted them.

But strangely, when I go to my profile folder => boomarks, it opened up in a tab of Firefox, which lists all the sites that I bookmarked, including those that I removed in the past.
It's possible that you see the backup file that are stored on the bookmarkbackup subdirectory.

Can you try the steps above with moving the backup folder away (don't delete it and move it just to another directory like directly under c:\)
Is it normal to have a lot of CORRUPT files and one sqlite file after doing all these procedures? (I did not touch places.sqlite-journal)

I still cannot bookmark though, as if nothing happened. The only result is CURRUPT files and a sqlite file in my profile, even after I deleted them and try bookmarking again.
Can you please create an additional test profile :
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+profiles
I already created a new profile. When I use that new profile, the bookmark and history are working again and normal. Thanks a lot!

One question: After I move all my bookmarks from my old profile to my new one, is it okay to delete the old profile?

Thanks again.
sounds like a mix of corrupt and locked, maybe with some other bug involved (we fixed some of them for 3.1).
duping as a corruption case.
