RSS readers are web services allowing users to subscribe to RSS feeds online and view them. If Firefox detects a feed, it offers the user to subscribe to it, either as a live bookmark or via one of the web services.

The current RSS Readers in en-US are Bloglines, My Yahoo, Google.

We want to ship a good set of defaults for Vietnamese, and will work towards that in three stages.

First, the localization team and Stas (Stas Malolepszy) will look at the market for the language and come up with a good candidates. Hung, we'll need your input on this, the guidelines for making recommendations are on http://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox_web_services_guidelines. After we decided on a particular RSS reader, Stas will contact the owner and ask for permission. undefined, we'll likely need your help to at least get the contact information.

Once we have a specification on what the set of RSS readers for Vietnamese should look like, the localization team and Stas will work on an implementation on that. This should happen by the localization team creating and attaching patches for the desired changes, and requesting review from Stas. After a successful review, the localization team will land them. If you're not feeling comfortable with creating those changes, ask Stas to help out.

Please don't commit any modifications in l10n/vi/browser/chrome/browser-region/region.properties to the cvs repository without a patch reviewed by Stas, Axel or someone else appointed by Stas/SethB. The data here is sensitive to users and our search partners, thus the extra care here.
I think we can keep these, with Google as the first priority.

Just a bit confusing when I set Google as the default rss reader:
If I click on a rss link, it will redirect me to "http://www.google.com/ig/add?feedurl=RSS_LINK_HERE" which is an ENGLISH page and let me choose between "Add to my Homepage" and "Add to Google Reader".

However, if I paste this link into the browser "http://www.google.com.VN/ig/add?feedurl=RSS_LINK_HERE", it will show a VIETNAMESE page and only let me choose "Thêm vào Trang Chủ" (Add to my Homepage).

I think it's because Google hasn't made a localized version for Google Reader?

As Google is a popular site and already used in Mozilla's products, which means Mozilla knows their handler protocols, then should I still have to make a patch for this?

And please note my above comment as well.
Usually, we just go for this URL: http://fusion.google.com/add?feedurl=%s
and let Google do their regular geo-/language-detection.

By default, Google is third in the list, so a patch would be welcome to change that.

For many locales we also often consider adding Netvibes (it's translated in 49% for Vietnamese) and/or removing Bloglines if it's not popular. What do you think?

region.properties patched for Google and Netvibes

Netvibes has been 99% translated (the 1% left is intentionally untranslated).

I'm uploading the patched region.properties file.

What encoding is this attachment in? With UTF-8, line 32 has a Unicode replacement character. With ISO 8859-1, the protocol handler on that line is registered as "Yahoo! Thý" instead of "Yahoo! Thư".

region.properties patched for Google and Netvibes

Strangely, it still shows correctly on my PC, even when I choose ANSI encoding.

However, I uploaded the wrong file. Sorry. This new file is in UTF-8 without BOM encoding.

Hey Hung. This looks good, but we will need a patch (created using 'hg diff'), not the whole file. Also, in the patch, please just address the change discussed in this bug (other changes and patches should go in their respective bugs). When you submit the patch, please request a review from stas@mozilla.com. Thanks!

This looks good, thanks! r=me, please land it on both l10n-central and l10n-mozilla-1.9.1 (ping me on IRC or email me if you need any help with this). Please use a verbose check-in comment, e.g. "Bug 463443, replace Bloglines with Netvibes in the RSS readers handlers, move Google Reader up on the list, r=stas".
