User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.4; en-US; rv:1.9.0.4) Gecko/2008102920 Firefox/3.0.4 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.4; en-US; rv:1.9.0.4) Gecko/2008102920 Firefox/3.0.4 As Firefox runs for longer and longer, it begins picking up more and more processor space, until it chokes out every other process and eventually even itself. It also causes my cooling fan to run nonstop while Firefox is open. Cannot say if it is related to multiple windows/tabs being open, because I always have multiple windows/tabs open. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Open Firefox 2.Browse assorted web pages 3.Check Activity monitor Actual Results: Firefox has been open long enough for me to create an account and fill out this much of the bug report form, and it's already climbed to 73.2% of my processing space. Expected Results: It should maintain a low processor use, as no background windows have any operations running.
This can be a problem of extensions or plug-ins (Flash can take up a lot of CPU and lots of web pages are covered in Flash adverts). This seems more like a support issue than a bugzilla issue. But I would suggest trying Firefox with a new profile or in Firefox safe-mode to see if that fixes the problem: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+profiles http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode

Have you tried either of my suggestions? It's really the only way to start diagnosing something like this.
This is a mass search for bugs which are in the Firefox General component, are UNCO, have not been changed for 500 days and have an unspecified version. Reporter, can you please update to Firefox 3.6.10 or later, create a fresh profile, http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/managing+profiles, and test again. If you still see the issue, please update this bug. If the issue is gone, please set the status to RESOLVED > WORKSFORME.
