Users are getting PKCS12 certificates with the extension ".pkcs12" these days, and once they figure out the right way to import, er, restore, their cert, we only support selection of ".p12" and ".pfx" filenames.
We should probably allow the ".pkcs12" extension, too. (Firefox/PSM does not, but Firefox/PSM also still does not allow ".pkcs7" which we added in bug 313776, and which they discussed adding there, too.)

Is it worth sneaking this in to 1.6.5 (or nominating for 1.6.6)?

In that case, consider it landed in the MOZILLA_1_8_BRANCH in advance of 1.6.5.
