User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.18) Gecko/20081029 Firefox/2.0.0.18
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.18) Gecko/20081029 Firefox/2.0.0.18

Before yesterday, i had no problem using the webmail for gmail and AOL. i got a pop-up from Firefox telling me that a needed update had been downloaded and needed to be installed. so since i closed and re-opened Firefox to install the update, neither Gmail nor AOL webmail works any more--it goes into "loading mail" mode and never recovers. i'm having to go to the "basic" version of each in order to access my mail. what the hell did you guys do?

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.go to gmail or aol
2.enter log-in name and password, and enter
3. "Loading mail...." and then nothing. just stalls out at "loading mail."
Actual Results:
nothing. stalls out at "loading mail"

Expected Results:
Loaded my freaking mail and displayed same.

never happened in the several years i've had aol and gmail until immediately after yesterday's firefox "update."
Go to Tools > Add-ons and select Extensions. Are you using McAfee Site Advisor or Real Player Browser Record extensions? I've had a few reports of this and one of those two extensions may be related. Try disabling them and restarting your browser to see if that helps.

Also, you should be able to access gmail in standard mode if you add https to the front of the URL rather than http. I know this isn't a good fix but it's a workaround until we find out what exactly is causing it.
thanks. i do use McAfee Site Advisor, and always have. It was definitely something in Tuesday's update push that set this off--never had any problem with Gmail or AOL mail until immediately after the update, and i've had McAfee for almost two years.
Does disabling it help? If it is McAfee site advisor, we at least know where to start debugging from. I'm not saying it's not ALSO Firefox, however, it's possible that when we patched a security issue, we may have broken something that McAfee site advisor was using.
disabling Site Advisor did not help. i shut it down, closed out Firefox, rebooted, re-opened Firefox, still can't access gmail or AOL web-based mail unless i switch to their "basic" formats. otherwise, it stalls out in "loading mail."
i do not use mcafee site advisor. gmail will not connect since firefox auto-update (other than in html, which is bunk and cumbersome). i checked "extensions" - the only item active is real player record plug-in. am i supposed to disable this and will i not ever need it?
ps: i use avg virus protection at its standard setting
disabling real player and site advisor doesn't resolve the issue, unfortunately. it's something else.
GOOGLE MAPS DOES NOT LOAD EITHER!! I NEED THIS URGENTLY FOR PROFESSIONAL REASONS
please fix asap!!!!! i did deactivate real player record plug-in!!
confirmed the problem with Google maps. what a mess this last update has created.
ok, i may have found a fix--

i disabled the site advisor, real player record plug-in, and talkback. i then closed firefox, rebooted my computer, and suddenly google maps, gmail and aol mail work.
ditto here

Heilsa!

I too was having the same exact problem in Firefox concerning gmail and some of the options in my yahoo account weren't accessible when all of the sudden one day I cam in an Firefox had updated without even asking me to 2.0.0.18 from 2.0.0.17. I do not upgrade to Firefox 3 as it won't let me use one of my plug-ins if I do so that is out of the question!

I read the others situations above and looked to see if I had the Talkback plugin and the Realplayer browser record plugin and I did. So I disabled them both and rebooted PC and now gmail and all of yahoo are accessible.

What is the deal with that? I need that RealPlayer plugin and I guess Mozilla doesn't need to know about program crashes with that Talkback plugin of theirs, huh. Again what is the deal Mozilla?

Please let me know when there will be a fix for this and I want one for Firefox 2.0.0.18 not for 3 as I would be further disappointed if I had to upgrade to 3 to get the situation fixed or not be able to use my other plugin if I did have to upgrade to 3 to get the fix.

Ves Heill! Farr Heill!
i do agree that upgrading should be a choice. i allowed the last one right away because i did not want to again experience the frustration of the one prior to that - which i planned to resist, as the firefox upgrades ALWAYS seem to be released prematurely and with bugs firmly in place. however, the auto-upgrade window popped up numerous times each day and i finally got tired of it.

please set up upgrades so that one can reject them once and for all - i will no longer allow them unless you guarantee them to be bug free, which i doubt you can... the time spent on this last problem was ridiculous - and it interfered with my professional capabilities, slowing down my productivity until fixed.
A new system has been put in place for dot releases concerning the acceptable fixes to make them viable, see: https://wiki.mozilla.org/User:Mconnor/SecurityUpdates . Please also see the bugzilla etiquette page: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/page.cgi?id=etiquette.html , specifically the No Obligation paragraph.
As soon as a developer confirms this bug, which will probably be particularly difficult as it deals with extensions and plugins, progress will be made to fix it. For help and/or support please visit Mozilla's support page at http://support.mozilla.com/ .
reporter: if you just reenable siteadvisor, does the problem come back?
I have rebooted and started entire computer in safemode, with no plug-ins active and this STILL does not fix the problem. Like another user said, I'm really not wishing to upgrade to FF3 since I've spoken with others and it seems not like certain programs. It seems however that this new update is causing the same issues in Firefox 2.
This bug was reported on Firefox 2.x or older, which is no longer supported and will not be receiving any more updates. I strongly suggest that you update to Firefox 3.6.3 or later, update your plugins (flash, adobe, etc.), and retest in a new profile. If you still see the issue with the updated Firefox, please post here. Otherwise, please close as RESOLVED > WORKSFORME
