Home page preferences are set for only my specific desired home page. This only started happening with 3.0.4 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open Firefox 3.0.4 Actual Results: A tab is opened with "http://en-us.www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.0.4/whatsnew/" , "You’ve been updated to the latest version of Firefox," Expected Results: Only opened up my home page, (about:blank). No addons.

Mind you, a new profile resolved the issue. Is this a bug that should remain open?
On startup it compares your version with the version mentioned in the value of the pref browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone . If it's different you'll see such a notification page and it will give the pref the new value. If I understand your bug well Firefox was not able to change this pref.
