The registration page should describe the groups not just list them as new members probably haven't checked them out yet.
Not sure if I should attach the proposed copy as a patch, but here's the google doc to start with http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dcn3q7s6_75gwr72kf2

Submitted a patch to the OG module maintainer. Hopefully we will have this feature
implemented in OG @ Drupal 6 in the near future.

This can also be applied to our current D5 installation.

Is there somewhere to turn this on now/add the strings?

This would require modifying the OG module, afaik
I agreed this would be a good enhancement, but I don't think it should block 3.0
Lucy, Mary, do you agree?

actually, scratch what I said, I think I know how to work around changing the OG module
If you can do it great -- but not a blocker :) Just one of those really nice to haves!

Should we re-target this to 3.1 then?
I think it's important to get done when we remember that we want people to join community @ sfx on join - without the explanation they might just as easily uncheck the box - however I don't think this is critical to getting the redesign up.

moving this to 3.1, per comment #8. we're out of time for 3.0, but this will be nice to have in 3.1
Severity: blocker → normal
Target Milestone: 3.0 → 3.1

Moshes reply to our patch,
"This is reasonable but I am leaning towards getting rid of description field and letting sites use cck if they need it."

That's a bummer, and sounds like a future PITA for us :(
However, there is another problem with implementing this. Projects don't really have a 1-2 sentence description, afaik. So, how would we get the 1-2 sentences we need for the registration page?
Dropping this from 3.1 as it has grown into a bigger enhancement and Moshes WONTFIX'ed us
Just my $0.02, I think this section of the registration page is pretty weak overall. If we're going to do this, maybe we should just redo the whole "Projects" section (or the whole reg. page :)
Summary: Descriptions for groups on registration page → Descriptions for projects on registration page
