Details
Firefox 3.1b2, Mac OS X 10.5
STR:
1. Right-click a youtube video, e.g. the one linked, to bring up the context menu
Actual result:
The video stops playing
Expected result:
The video should continue playing, while the context menu is showing.
I'm not 100% positive (please confirm), but I think this is a regression from how things used to work. Filing this bug kind of pre-emptively because I know things have changed to plug-ins on OS X recently - so if it I'm wrong, just close this bug.
Probably a dupe of bug 449293 (or maybe a variant of it); at any rate, that's a native menu being shown there, and I can reproduce your bug in Fx3.0.3, so it's not a recent regression.

Yes, it sounds like about the same as bug 449293 although that bug is marked as Camino-only...

You're clicking _inside_ the Flash movie, right ?
Isn't that a Flash issue ?
The context menu comes from Flash. And I get the same issue when trying with WebKit & Safari 3.2.1.
It is slightly worse in Firefox3.04 / Minefield latest / Camino latest in that I see a brief flash of white covering the movie before the context menu shows up.
Tested with the youTube player and the news.BBC player

Yes, this is a Flash bug (and possibly also an Apple bug).
See bug 450505.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:17.0) Gecko/17.0 Firefox/17.0
Flash version: 11.4.402.265.
Moving this as per comment 4, though we should probably just mark this wontfix after 4 years with no progress.

if i'm not mistaken, this was a cocoa and OS X 10.5 limitation. when apple pushed coreanimation in Safari OS X 10.6, the issue was resolved in Flash Player 10.1, Argo.

I'm not sure what to do with that information. Does that mean this should no longer be an issue with latest Flash, OSX, and Safari; and is therefore a Firefox bug?
Should the reproduction of this issue on Windows be filed as a separate bug?

this should no longer be an issue on OS X 10.6+ and most likely a firefox bug.
on windows, sandboxing introduced the issue and resolution is under consideration for the next major release of flash player.
the windows bug is tracking in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=797830

Ioana, please confirm that this is no longer an issue on Mac OSX 10.6 or newer with the latest Nightly and Flash 11.5. If it's no longer an issue then this can be closed WORKSFORME. If it remains an issue then this is a bug in Firefox.
The Windows issue is separate so lets keep that information in bug 797830.

Wherever you test FF on a version of OS X, please also test Safari.
If this problem also happens in Safari (as reported above in comment #3 above), it can't be a bug in Firefox.

coreanimation was introduced in Safari 4. comment #3 is referring to Safari 3...

Interestingly, I see this bug in a copy I built a while ago of Chromium (which doesn't bundle a special version of the Flash plugin), but not in Google Chrome (which does).
I've installed the latest Flash version in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ (11.5.502.110).
I'll try rebuilding Chromium with current code, to see if that makes any difference.
(I tested on OS X 10.7.5.)

This bug also happens in current Chromium (built from the r166590 tarball, downloaded today).
It doesn't happen in Opera 12.10 (the current version). But (interestingly) you don't see Flash's context menu when you right-click on a running Flash plugin -- you see Opera's.
I tested with the Flash movies at http://mirrors.creativecommons.org/.

I'm closing a lot of bugs which are filed as Adobe Flash bugs which are either irrelevant, not actionable, or not serious enough to track in the Mozilla bug tracker. For the most part, Flash bugs should be filed in Adobe bugbase, and we'll only track a few highly-critical issues in the Mozilla tracker.
