Certain viewers offer the ability to "zoom" in a particular area of the current window. For example, with xdvi, when right-clicking in a particular position of the window, a small popup appears containing an enlarged rendering of the content surrounding the position of the cursor. The enlarged content of the popup is kept in sync as the cursor moves around while pressing the right button. Mozilla already zooms with "View -> Engarge Text Size" but unfortunately, this applies to the *whole* document. This bug reports is a request for a lense widget in XUL, to allow the zoom process to be confined in small section (like in the xdvi example mentioned above). A possible implementation could be to open the popup with an appropriate zoom factor for the rendering context, and pass a suitable DOM fragment (or something) to Gecko to display the portion of interest.
Adding helpwanted keyword and futuring this one.

Interesting feature. However; This could be considered an os function. Windows 2000 comes w/ a magnifier application, which works pretty well. Don, feel free to assign to nobody.
Since Don has left, Vishy is taking his bugs in bulk, pending reassignment. thanks, Vishy

nav triage team: Neat feature, but definitely won't do this for beta1, marking nsbeta1-

good idea, we need to get to 1.0 before doing stuff like this. Throwing out to the nobody hounds.

I really think this should be WONTFIX. This would be better done by the OS and at least two operating systems that I have used come with such a feature as standard, including Windows which has most of the market.
Whiteboard: WONTFIX? OS feature.
