Firefox 3.05 on mac os x does not display some devanagari (U900) character sequences properly.
They are displayed properly on Safari.
At the URL http://devanaagarii.net/de-sample-mac-safari-firefox.html there is a list of words written in devanagari script. word # 4,5,6,7,8, 16 and 22 are not displayed properly. The correct display can be seen in Safari, or in the juxtaposed screenshot at http://devanaagarii.net/chhavi/de-sample-mac-safari-firefox.png - Safari rendering on the left and firefox on the right.
If you do not see the page as displayed in the screenshot, please see the instructions at http://devanaagarii.net/mac for setup instructions.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to the url http://devanaagarii.net/de-sample-mac-safari-firefox.html
Actual Results:
The display should have been the same as in Safari
Expected Results:
Some words were not displayed correctly.
This makes the browser unusable for users of devanagari (Hindi, Marathi, Nepali and Sanskrit languages) unusable on the mac.
On the left is the correct rendering in Safari and the right is the incorrect rendering in firefox.

This works fine in Firefox 3.1b2, I think. Firefox 3.0.x (Gecko 1.9.0.x) has some issues there.
Tested by me, the original reporter on firefox 3.1b2 after comment #3 and this bug isn't there in that version. Please do whatever's needed to be done for bugs present in 3.05 and fixed in 3.1b2 for this bug.

Thanks for confirming this. That enabled me to find that the issue got fixed on trunk / Gecko 1.9.1 branch between 20081106 and 20081107:
http://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/pushloghtml?fromchange=f3993df71c29&tochange=18fec592b35b
which leads to bug 428317.
(there is a chance that this will get fixed for Gecko 1.9.0.6/Firefox 3.0.6)
