User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-GB; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008120122 Firefox/3.0.5 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-GB; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008120122 Firefox/3.0.5 On the occations when firefox crashes and close it in not possible to star a new sesion either in normal or Sfae Mode,an error mesage comes up. In additon firefox is still show as running in Task Manager Process tab an can not be close down with either "End Process" or "End Procee Tree" the only way to close firef0x down in this situation is to reboot the computer. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Run firefox as normal 2. Wait for a crash or lock out 3. close using the "X" or close Exit option in file tab 4. Try to start a new sesion (won't have it) 5. Sart Windows Task Manager & goto Process Tab 6. Find Firefox in the list 7. Right click and select either "END PROSESS" or "END PROCESS TREE", confirmation box pops up say OK 8. Reboot after 4 to 6 dose not work 9. start Firefox as normal, until the next time it crashes or locks out Actual Results: on Crash or Lock out and subsequent closeure Firefox fails to either restart from the programs menus in normal or safe mode or from desktop icon ,an error message saying that it is alrready running pops up, and the proces can not be ended from Windows Task Manager Expected Results: Firefox shoul be able to restart, in at least safe mode, with out having to reboot the computer. Firefox should be closeable from Windows Task Manager Prosesse tab with either End Process or End Proces Tree
Try starting Firefox in Safe Mode in the first place, then go through your steps to repro.

(In reply to comment #1) > Try starting Firefox in Safe Mode in the first place, then go through your > steps to repro. I can't repo it at will. This can ONLY happens/be done when firefox actuall stop working for waht ever the reason & as stated if it dose stop it can not be restarted in either mode.
To make this more useful, please follow the steps found at http://quality.mozilla.org/bug-writing-guidelines and report back with your results.
You are using Zonrealarm as firewall, right ? >2. Wait for a crash or lock out A crash means that the process is closed and you would not have this issue. I think you mean either that it doesn't load new pages or it hangs.
I know what I mean and it is BOTH yes the process closes on a crash but not totaly or it would not show as STILL RUNNING in Windows Task Manager PROCESSES. YES the exact same thing also happens wahen it stops responding.
If you are getting a crash the causes this, please give the crash id (https://developer.mozilla.org/En/How_to_get_a_stacktrace_for_a_bug_report). But a crash, as matti said, would not cause this.

DO YOU USE ZONEALARM ?
(In reply to comment #8) > DO YOU USE ZONEALARM ? Zone Alarm Pro
This is a Zonealarm issue. The Firewall driver breaks firefox and that's the reason why you can't kill the Firefox process, it's hanging in the firewall kernel mode driver. Either remove ZA (disabling doesn't help), try to fix it with the steps in bug 470849 or contact the ZA support about this issue. You can give them the url of bug 470849

if this is a firefox problem, then why aren't you seeing the problem at work? the reasons why aren't something our qa is expected to determine. they've pointed you to the problem. you're free to disable zone alarm and confirm the problem goes away. if it doesn't go away, you're actively encouraged to reopen so someone else might investigate. do note that investigation is expensive. our time is valuable. it took me 4 hours to walk a customer through a startup crash, only to discover she had a rootkit on her computer. in most cases, if i were in a business relationship with that customer, and i were paid support, i'd expect to be paid for my time. matti and the rest of our qa are volunteer. if you really don't trust matti, you're free to try to investigate yourself. 1. https://developer.mozilla.org/En/How_to_get_a_stacktrace_with_WinDbg 2. when firefox hangs, open windbg, attach to firefox, be sure to setup symbols as described in [1] 3. !analyze -v -hang it should say DRIVER_FAULT or something (with a follow up to MACHINE_OWNER - that's you).

You could have a different setup on your other computers, Firefox and ZA may not be interacting the same way, etc. Really, this is nothing we can do or fix, as has been said several times in various bugs.

PROBABLY BECAUE THOSE TWO MACHINES AREUSING XP PRO AS THE OS THE MACINE WITH THE PROBLEM HAS VIST ULITMATE AS IT OS. TOTALY DIFFERENT PAROGRAMS IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE WHCI TO ME SUGGETS THAT THE PROBLEM IS WITH FIREFOE AND ITS COMAPTABILITY WITH VIST AND NOT ZONE ALARM PRO (THERE IS ALSO A BIG DIFFERANCE IN THE WAY ZONE ALRM PRO AND STANDARD WORK)

We have millions of Firefox users on vista including myself without any issues. You don't seem to have deep knowledge how an OS works (kernel mode/userspace) as also your last comment shows, Autocad doesn't install drivers running in the kernel mode. You don't want to hear the comments from other ZA users that they fixed it with removing ZA from their system and you don't listen to the ZA support that provided steps that could help to fix the issue with their product and you didn't seem to have ask the very helpful ZA support yourself. You are acting like a 10 year old kid on drugs, would you please just go away and use the internet ExploreR (don't forget the last R) or whatever you want and go back to the kindergarten. Thanks

Paul, This has been gone over and over again, Firefox can not cause the problem you are having, and this bug has been marked a dupe. Please stop commenting on it, or your account could be removed. I am using Vista with Zonealarm 8 and have never had a problem, so I can not find your issue for you.
And yes, If you really really work for the Royal Navy, yes, they could have a problem with their computers. I suggest you take it up with their IT chaps.
Thank god the IT "Chap" is not as ARRPGANT as you. Who do you think set things up the computers that I man in the moon. Oh and if there were aproblem I would know about it we don't just use compter for emails these days you know we do use them to control the ships engins and other systems so SPROG go lean somrthing
