User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008120122 Firefox/3.0.5 Build Identifier: 0.2.96 I have Weave 0.2.96 on two computers, both using FF3.0.5. I have Weave server 0.3 activated. One computer is Vista, the other is XP. At some stage (which is potentially before I upgraded to Weave 0.2.96 and activated the 0.3, but I didn't notice until now) my bookmarks stopped syncing. The error code I am getting on both computers is: 2009-01-06 11:25:27 Engine.Bookmarks WARN Sync failed 2009-01-06 11:25:27 Service.Main WARN Engine exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [IWeaveCrypto.unwrapSymmetricKey]" nsresult: "0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE)" location: "JS frame :: file:///C:/..<file path deleted for privacy reasons>..../FirefoxPortable/Data/profile/extensions/%7B340c2bbc-ce74-4362-90b5-7c26312808ef%7D/modules/base_records/crypto.js :: CryptoMeta__getKey :: line 168" data: no] Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. On either computer, any sync will produce this error. I have tried disabling all plugins, and tried disabling the firewall on one computer.
Voila! It is working, however only with an old Weave account that I had abandoned. I still have the unwrapSymmetricKey error with what was my preferred Weave account. I would still consider this to be a bug, because I can log into Weave with the FF add-on, however I still can't log in via WedDav. If the credentials for WebDav don't let me log in, how come does the Weave add-on allow me to sign in? Could it be because I'm using the same password and passphrase (password is unique to the passphrase) with my two different accounts, merely just different usernames?
Sorry I take my last comment back. I tried last night on my Vista computer a fresh install of FF3.0.5 with Weave 0.2.97, with exactly the same username, password, and passphrase that I had working yesterday on my XP computer. Get the symmetricunwrap error. Also tried with a fresh install of FF3.1-b2, and no luck. Now, back on the XP coputer which was working perfectly yesterday and I have left running overnight, I am also getting the symmetricunwrap error. I'd love it if someone could explain whether this is a known problem or not, as it's driving me batty. Did you delete any server data by any chance? If not, then I suspect the client uploaded a new symmetric key to the server, causing some records to be un-decryptable. A work-around would be to delete all server data, see instructions here: https://labs.mozilla.com/forum/comments.php?DiscussionID=4892&page=1#Item_2 (you'll need curl, a command generally available on linux or os x)
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
Dan, Thanks for the advice. I had seen that discussion regarding curl, and would have already tried deleting the server data, except not having access to a unix based machine it's not really an option I don't believe. I've googled for hours trying to find out how to install the necessary gear to run a curl command from windows, with no luck. I'll just have to wait until the "wipe server data" feature is reimplemented in Weave :( Cheers, Tom
There you can found curl for windows http://curl.haxx.se/latest.cgi?curl=win32-ssl
Igor, have you personally used that curl for windows? I've downloaded it, but it will not run because I do not have libeay32.dll. So I download a random libeay32.dll from some other dll site, but now the error I'm getting is "The procedure entry point ASN1_STRING_data could not be located in libeay32.dll". I've tried a couple other libeay32.dll files but same deal. So, again, I guess I'm back to waiting until the "wipe server data" feature is reimplemented in Weave :(
Alright I've worked it out now, on Windows I need to download curl with dll libraries from here: http://www.gknw.net/mirror/curl/win32/curl-7.19.2-ssl-sspi-zlib-static-bin-w32.zip Unfortuantely I'm unable to connect from the computer I'm on at the moment (I suspect firewall restrictions) so I'll try from another computer later tonight. Thanks for the help, I'm looking forward to resolving this!
Thanks for finding that, Tom!
I've now deleted all server data, and have re-synced to the server with no errors, but will have to wait a couple days until I get back to the other computers before I can confirm all is well again. Thanks everyone for their assistance, I will mark this as resolved ASAP when I can confirm.
I couldn't wait to test it out thoroughly, so I tested it out. After wiping server data, it'll work fine for one computer. And, another computer can seem to sync bookmarks okay, BUT with a symmetricunwrap error. THEN, no other computers will sync. I've tried wiping server data and repeating the process, and I am DEFINITELY using the same password and passphrase on all three installations. The three FF installations are FF3.0.5, FF3.1B2, and PortableAppsFF3.0.5 - however I have isolated the PortableApps and can confirm this version of FF is not the offender, since I wiped server data and synced only the first two installs, and they were able to produce the error. I am running all three installations from Vista SP1, with Weave 0.2.97, and this is definitely a repeatable error after wiping all server data. Is there anything I should do to help isolate exactly what is causing it? i.e. a fresh install of FF, without any bookmarks? Could it be that I have some sort of corrupt bookmark that is causing me to have this unique error?
Thanks Tom. I will test with Vista and see if I can reproduce it. Are you restarting (or not restarting) Firefox after deleting server data?
Pretty sure I wasn't restarting FF. I will try, and see if that helps.
Okay so I've noticed Weave 0.2.98 is out, and have updated my FF3.1 B2 and my FF3.0.5PortableApps to this version. I have cleared both Weave logs and closed the programs. I've wiped all server data (bookmarks, history, crypto, keys). I'm not getting the symmetricunwrap error any more, but it's still not syncing properly. This is driving me batty! :-) FF3.1B2: Loaded up. It automatically logged in and did a sync, and then I did a manual sync. No symmetricunwrap errors occured. Back on the 3rd computer today, and have found that with Windows XP and Weave 0.2.98, there is nothing but 'successfully completed' in the verbose log, although bookmarks from computers 1 & 2 have not been synced to this computer. I'm pretty sure that the SymmetricUnwrap error has been resolved by Weave 0.2.98, so am marking this resolved. However now I seem to have another problem :(
