User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2a1pre) Gecko/20090112 Firefox/3.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2a1pre) Gecko/20090112 Minefield/3.2a1pre When clicking a menu, occasionally the first menu item is selected and activated. The root of this bug may be the same for Bug 404314; however, that bug was reported in Nov. 2007 and it isn't until Sept. 6, 2008 that this bug became very noticeable on Windows, if the CuteMenus - Crystal SVG extension is installed and configured for "FlatStyle" menus. Regression began with: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1b1pre) Gecko/20080906062345 Minefield/3.1b1pre I have once been able to reproduce this bug without the CuteMenus - Crystal SVG extension; however, it is extremely difficult to do so without it. With CuteMenus present, it is very easy to reproduce this bug. As such, the extension is necessary, though unlikely itself the cause of the bug. It is therefore possible that information from this bug may help track down the root cause of Bug 404314. Also worth noting: from Oct. to Nov. 2007, there were many menu-related changes checked into Trunk. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Create a new profile 2. Launch Minefield and DO NOT resize the browser window 3. Install CuteMenus - Crystal SVG v.1.9.3: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1330 4. Go to CuteMenus - Crystal SVG Options and enable FlatStyle --> Use on Menus 5. Set the following as your homepage: http://finance.yahoo.com/|http://www.osnews.com/|http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox/3.1b1pre/whatsnew/|http://www.mozilla.org/projects/minefield/|http://forums.mozillazine.org/|http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=836655&sid=72a870b426e80d32492f18ae5b290c29|http://www.osnews.com/|http://www.neowin.net/news/category/main|http://www.neowin.net/news/main/09/01/09/google-chrome-20-pre-beta-released|http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/|http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/2008/09/2008-09-06-06-mozilla-central/|https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1330|﷒0﷓ 6. Restart the browser (this step is necessary for the CuteMenus setting to take effect) 7. The tabbar should now be populated with the pages that were set as the homepage. 8. DO NOT maximize the browser window. With the browser window at default size, you should have a little more than 4 tabs overflowing the tabbar. This is necessary. 9. Select the left-most tab then click and hold the right-hand overflow button to scroll all the way to the right. 10. Select the right-most tab 11. NOTE: Steps 11 and 12 must be completed within seconds of each other. The quicker the better 12. Click the "Bookmarks" menu and move your mouse vertically down and beyond the menu, such that the menu remains onscreen. 13. Staying clear of the still present Bookmarks menu, move your mouse to and click the tab drop-down list to the right of the right-hand tab overflow menu. 14. Notice that the first entry in the list (i.e. the first tab) was selected, leading the tabbar to scroll all the way to the left. 15. If you did not notice the event in Step 14, try repeating Steps 10 to 13. 16. If you still cannot reproduce the event noted in Step 14, then it is possible that this bug is present only on slower systems--a timing issue. I have a video demonstration of this bug but will post it only if people find my instructions difficult in aiding reproducibility. NOTE: Although above steps focus on the bug being triggered on the tabs menu, this bug equally occurs for certain menus on the menubar.

see bug 406646, possible dupe.
(In reply to comment #1) > see bug 406646, possible dupe. The underlying issue might be similar, but that bug is going nowhere. Note that my bug is not Bookmark menu specific. Under the right circumstance, I can utilize other menus to trigger the bug. It would be better for me to point them here than to dupe to that bug.
despite the title that we have retained because users find the issue more frequently with bookmarks menu, bug 406646 is NOT only about bookmarks menu, and saying is going nowhere is a nonsense, it will go somewhere when someone will find the cause, there is also a regression window there. You should have posted this directly into that bug, create a new bug and ask for it not to be duped is definately a wrong choice.
(In reply to comment #3) > You should have > posted this directly into that bug, create a new bug and ask for it not to be > duped is definately a wrong choice. Well, for starters I did not even know that bug 406646 existed as I came was tracking this issue from the bug I mentioned in my report (Bug 404314, which predates and I'm sure even bug 406646 is a dupe of). Secondly, I had already posted information in bug 406646, but it was suggested that I open a new bug on the issue. Lastly, nothing I have read in bug 406646 gave me confidence that there is a path to a solution. It was not my intention to be insulting, so I apologize for my poor choice of words. I have in the past had to dupe a bug to get it fix, where a prior report saw no direction; however, like I have already stated, I was not aware of bug 406646 at the time and had already made the effort to post in bug I still believe to be related.
(In reply to comment #4) > Secondly, I had already posted information in bug 406646, but it was suggested > that I open a new bug on the issue. TYPO: I meant to state that I had already posted information in **Bug 404314**
If someone feels the need to dupe this to whatever, then go ahead. I don't believe there's anymore I can contribute to this matter.
