User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008120122 Firefox/3.0.5 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008120122 Firefox/3.0.5 This "bug" is not to enable/disable "identity information" checking (separate issue), but to enable/disable the associated pop-up. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Click on the address bar's URL icon. 2. "identity information" pop-up message appears. 3. The associated "toolbar" message drags along with the URL when dragging the the URL to the Bookmarks Toolbar, interfering with dropping the URL. Actual Results: URL sometimes does not get dropped into a Bookmarks Toolbar folder. Expected Results: Toolbar message should disappear on dragging. I understand the toolbar message dragging issue may be resolved in FF 3.1, but the "identity information" checking option, new to the recent versions of FF should be just that, "optional". Further, it must be a simple matter of providing the option of being able to enable/disable the pop-up, and/or the check all together. This "bug" has nothing to do with "identity information" checking functionality or accuracy, which is a separate issue. This only has to do with turning the function on/off and its associated display mechanisms.

The pop-up associated with the Identity Info pop-up is what I was really requesting to correct, specifically making this optional, rather than always being active. Making this optional would also alleviate the drag and drop issue as well. Thanks.
Comment on attachment 357699 [details] Identity Info pop-up The pop-up associated with the Identity Info should be optional, rather than being on all the time. Thanks.
Ok, this isn't a duplicate of bug 312852 then, but asking for and option to disable the Identity Info popup-up seems like a bad idea. It seems to me this bug should become WONTFIX then.

Now that bug 312852 is fixed, this panel only appears when the you click the favicon. Why do you want to disable it? What do you want to happen instead when you click the favicon?
> the "identity information" checking option, new to the recent versions of FF Identity checking is not new, but the UI associated with what Firefox has always done did change with Firefox 3.0. It would be helpful to know why you want this to go away and how you think Firefox should convey this information instead.

I do believe the OP is not talking about the actual (click on favicon > popup reading "you are connected to...." with the "more info" button at the bottom) but rather when you try and DRAG the favicon to the bookmark folder just beneath it. (EG: if you do it on this actual page, you get an additional popup saying "verified by Equifax" (which stops link dragging access to the folders just below the http:// part of the address bar)...I find this annoying also (as the folder right underneath is work related) If this HAS to popup, then a better place would be above the address bar, to the right of the Help. just my 2cents.
Samuel, you're talking about bug 312852. Bill's comment 0 made it pretty clear that this isn't a duplicate of that bug, but doesn't make it clear why he wants the popup to be optional.
