User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.1b2) Gecko/20081201 Firefox/3.1b2 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.1b2) Gecko/20081201 Firefox/3.1b2 (apologies, I lost my original bug report as firefox cleared my form while I was checking the identity information so this is a greatly summarized version). When clicking and dragging a link from the address bar, the yellow "Identity Information" bar shows up below the address bar which in this case is over the bookmark bar where it was intended to drop the link. The bookmark bar is unavailable wherever the yellow bar obscures it. Because the mouse is already engaged in an operation, it is not possible to dismiss the yellow bar until its full duration (6-8 seconds) has expired, requiring the user to hold the button and wait. In the case of a predominately research focused effort within Firefox (most of my work for the past three months) this becomes very frustrating. It can also have negative consequences if the user is not aware the yellow bar is preventing access as they may drop the link not realizing that it does not get added to the bookmark. Most of these hover type windows in other applications that I've used do not capture or obscure user interaction with the surface beneath. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.While display a web page, for example www.opengl.org click the link icon at the front of the address bar and drag it over the bookmark bar. 2.If you are efficient with this, the yellow hover appears right over the bookmark bar where you are attempting to drop the link. Actual Results: If you drop the link, it *will not* be added to the bookmark page. Moving the mouse around while holding the button (to drag the link) will not hide the yellow bar and you can not drop links around the yellow bar as it completely covers the bookmark buttons. The yellow bar remains visible for its longest duration (6-8 seconds) during which time you have to wait holding the mouse button until you can finally regain access to the bookmark bar. Expected Results: The yellow hover should not under any circumstances obscure or prevent functionality which is directly relevant to the address bar. At a minimum, the hover should not capture mouse events so that the link can still be dropped. Alternative (1) would be to clear or prevent display of the yellow bar if any mouse or key events are in progress (other than hover). Alternative (2) would be to display the hover information somewhere other than over the bookmark control, possibly above the address bar where there is minimal impact to the user. I do apologize if this is a duplicate, but none of the top 100 bugs that I browsed through on this topic seemed to be relevant to this specific aspect. No customization of the firefox environment has been done.
