User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.0.6) Gecko/2009011913 Firefox/3.0.6
Build Identifier: version 2.0.0.19 (20081209)
New mail is sent and received successfully but only the subject line appears in the 'sent' folder. The page appears blank when clicking on all new 'sent' subject lines since last nights upgrade. Old sent files prior to upgrade still work.
Thanx
Pete

Did you already tried to right click on the folder, select properties and click on rebuild Index ?

Yes..clicked on rebuild index........still only get subject line
Can this happen when the email data gets too heavy......I have emails going back 3 years.

Which File System do you use Fat32 or NTFS ?
There is only a 4GB limit for each folder and TB should warn you if it reaches 4gb (mailbox is full).,
I have deleted many old files to lighten the email box, but the sent message contents still do not appear - even on the latest emails after the deletions. This problem has never happened before and started the next day after the latest Thunderbird update. I was wondering if there is a bug or a software conflict that would explain what's happening. If so, has anyone else encountered this? What is the fix?

Tried deleting the .msf file for the folder? Also, tried without extensions? (thunderbird.exe -safe-mode) Anything of interest in the Error Console?

I don't know how to delete the .msf file for the folder. What do you mean by Error Console? I am coping at the moment by not sending anything via Thunderbird and have opened up a gmail account linking back to Thunderbird so my sent emails are at least saved in the gmail system. Should I uninstall and re-install Thunderbird?
Pete
My last good sent emails were on 5 February. Since then the sent files (even after rebuilding index) have either no details in the body or they have scrambled code or they have a completely different email text string in the body that has been pulled at random from the history files of different email recipients.

You'll find the .msf files in your profile folder,
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Thunderbird
The Error Console is found under the Tools menu.

I have deleted the .msf for the sent folder in profile folder with no change. As for the error console... There are many entries like this:
Warning: Unrecognised at-rule or error parsing at-rule '@font-face'.
Source File: mailbox:///C|/Documents%20and%20Settings/sandy/Application%20Data/Thunderbird/Profiles/5h4gj2ee.default/Mail/Local%20Folders-1/Inbox?number=441351525
Line: 16
Don't know if that makes any sense.
Would it be easier if I just uninstalled Thunderbird and re-installed? Do you recommend this?

You could but i don't think it will solve your issue, as I think something is corrupted in your profile. If you do deinstall/reinstall let us know the results

My name is Mark Schulz. My wife is seeing the identical issue with her TB account. There were no warning messages that her mail box was full. I have checked the file size for her sent folder and it is at 4.2 GB. She is running Firefox 3.0.10 on Vista Home premium. I tried moving some old sent email to an archive folder and then re-indexed the the sent folder and it did not resolve the problem. She also saw the scrambled emails threads from completely different messages and then just the blank email messages.

I have a solution to the issue. The file size of the sent folder was the issue. I moved some additional emails to an archived folder and then compacted the folder. The compact process re-sized the folder and all new sent emails appear as expected.

Bingo! Thanks Mark... It did work. I had previously removed files from the sent folder to lighten the load... but had not compacted afterwards.

Hello
This happens with Inbox as well. However, I could observe other issues on a 64-bit Ubuntu Linux box of a colleague running Thunderbird 3.08. First of all it appears odd that there is a 4GB limit on a mailbox under such a system, but even not liking it I can accept that as a compatibility limitation. What is not acceptable is that when a box is 4GB, deleting messages and compating does not work at all (it does not compact, process initiates and exits immediately, and one cannot receive messages), and the only way to recover is to create separate folders, move the existing messages there, and then close Thunderbird and erase the 4GB mail file togethere with the corresponding .msf. Then, either rename one of the created folders as Inbox and restart Thunderbird or after restart move back a part of the previously moved messages back to Inbox.
Shall I file in a new bug or are these comments accepted as a part of this one?
Please advise
Best regards

Antonio J. de Oliveira, Tb 3 and Local Sent folder(not IMAP folder)?
If so, Bug 598104 can occur, although bug 387502 doesn't occur in Tb 3.
> Bug 598104 Local Sent folder allowed to grow past 4GB
By the way, size limit on Linux/Mac is 2GB. So, user might not see sent mail copy for long time. Or, after 2GB beffore 4GB, user could see mails from offset=0 to offset=2GB, and nothing can be seen after over 4GB.
See bug 387502 coment #118 for general recovery procedure of data in 4GB/2GB file.

Closing as dup of Bug 387502, to avoid further comments by Tb 3 users.
Mark Schulz, watch Bug 598104, please.
