In the slidebar bookmarks, the FTP sites can be expansed to a directory
structure of the FTP site. In older builds, in the "Bookmarks" menu that was the
same; but in newer builds, in "Bookmarks" menu there is just a FTP site bookmark.

I dont' think that you can get a tree view of FTP bookmarks in the sidebar or
the manage bookmarks window.

looks like we jsut aren't doing that anymore - not in the sidebar not in Manage bookmarks, not anywhere. You can submit a
Request For Enhancement (RFE) if you'd like but this bug is likely to be closed as WONTFIX or INVALID.

updating this bug to make it an RFE. setting bug status to New for triage to
it's likely helpwanted future state.

Reassigning 79 Bookmarks bugs to Ben. I was told this was going to be done
shortly about two months ago, but it clearly hasn't been. I think that's long
enough for all these bugs to remain assigned to nobody.

This works for me, Windows NT build 2000112220. Specifically, I get an expanded
tree view of the FTP site ftp.netscape.com from the sidebar, from the Bookmarks
drop-down in the toolbar, and from Manage Bookmarks.

... but not from the Bookmarks menu.

I also note that
ftp://ftp.netscape.com/
works but
ftp://ftp.netscape.com
(no trailing slash) doesn't. Is this deliberate?

I think this is a really bad idea from a UI perspective as menu (ie the bookmark
menu) are supposed to be quick and responsive. Having to access a full ftp site
from within the menu will slow down menu buildup below tolerable levels in many
cases.

Netscape Nav triage team: this is not a Netscape beta stopper. marking wontfix

knous@netscape.com, please do not wontfix bugs which you are not the owner for,
unless you have permission from the owner to do so (and state that in the bug).
Reopening.

mpt: Ben is the owner of this bug, he works for the Netscape Nav team which made
a collective decision to WONTFIX this bug. If you wish to own this bug then
please reassign it to yourself. thanks, Vishy.

Ok, thanks for that clarification. Verified wontfix.

Is the WONTFIX status of this bug an indication that if a fix was forthcoming
(like, say, the attached patch), it would be refused because we believe that
this is not a feature that we want to have in our product?

hixie: yes. Mostly. IIRC there were a host of reasons why although this may seem desirable
in the end, it wasn't(e.g. godawful slow).
If that's not the case and I'm completely out of my mind then this bug should've been marked
Later and 'Help Wanted'

OK, let's straighten this out. This bug was marked WONTFIX per me, not the
"Netscape Nav" team, nor the "Netscape Nav" triage team, as it should be, as
nobody has the right to WONTFIX my bugs but myself.
At any rate, I believe this bug is asking for expanding menus like the sidebar
panel. I think we have that already, so I'm going to reopen and mark fixed.
(Apologies for misinterpreting what was being asked for). You could certainly
make the case for allowing the ability to not expand FTP dirs and simply load the
FTP site in the content area.

mass-verifying claudius' Fixed bugs which haven't changed since 2001.12.31.
if you think this particular bug is not fixed, please make sure of the following
before reopening:
a. retest with a *recent* trunk build.
b. query bugzilla to see if there's an existing, open bug (new, reopened,
assigned) that covers your issue.
c. if this does need to be reopened, make sure there are specific steps to
reproduce (unless already provided and up-to-date).
thanks!
