Reporter, what do you mean with "the help contents is opened in a new tab when clicking help"? Do you mean the help menu item directly on the right side of the tools menu? That should not happen. Please try to run Firefox in Safe Mode. We have to make sure that no add-on is causing this problem. Thanks.
Yes, I am referring to the help menu directly to the right of the tool menu. The error still exists in safe-mode with all add-ins disabled.
Ok, just to make sure that there is nothing broken with your profile, please create a fresh one according to the following steps: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+profiles Does the issue still exist?
Yes, the issue still exists.
Are you running a 32 bit or 64 bit Vista version?
Windows Vista Business x64
I'm not able to reproduce this at all. The help content should only be opened when clicking the first sub menu entry within the help menu. I wonder what happens if you use the other menus? Is the first item automatically selected too? Do you see any error in the error console? Probably you should turn on strict js warnings first (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Javascript.options.strict)
Ok, this happens also for other menus and not only the help menu. You should be able avoid this by holding the mouse button instead of releasing it immediately. This is a dupe of bug 404314.
