I downloaded Thunderbird 3.0b2 to try it out and using it I started noticing certain mailboxes were being expunged. I have the account set to "just mark it as deleted" when I delete a message. I also *do not* have the "Clean up (Expunge) Inbox on Exit" checkbox set.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
I'm not exactly sure what causes the expunging to happen. I *think* it might be whatever folder I'm looking at when I close Thunderbird, but I haven't verified that. I don't really want to lose more mail.



Checking the advanced prefs for both "deleted" and "expunge" I see that the only user set preference is:

mail.server.server2.delete_model;0

Server2 seems to be my imap server (server1 is local stuff).

Some more info on this: It prints "Compacting folder" in the status bar when this happens. It seems to happen when it opens the folder and there are enough deleted messages in it. After playing around I've determined that the magic number is 20.

Checking the config options I notice that I have:

mail.imap.check_deleted_before_expunge;false
mail.imap.expunge_after_delete;false
mail.imap.expunge_option;0
mail.imap.expunge_threshold_number;20

That "20" looks suspicious.

this is a dup of an already fixed bug...bug 484445 - nightly builds already have and b3 will have the fix for this.
