User-Agent: iCab/3.0.5 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X) Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; it-IT; rv:1.8.1.19) Gecko/20081204 SeaMonkey/1.1.14 Since I upgraded my computer's OS from Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger to Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard and I brought with me the old Mozilla profiles folder with all my accounts and e-mail messages, I'm experiencing application hangs when I click the Reply All button in SeaMonkey's Mail & Newsgroups component. To be more accurate, SM hangs while drawing the composition window (I'll attach a screenshot later). My only option to regain control of the application is to force quit it. I took samples, stack traces and crash logs from two hangs (I'll attach these, too) and it seems to me a deadlock issue since all the threads are blocked in the semaphore_wait_signal_trap or _select$DARWIN_EXTSN$NOCANCEL symbols of libSystem.B.dylib. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open SeaMonkey with the Enigmail extension installed. 2. Click the Reply All button to reply to an e-mail. Actual Results: Sometimes SM starts to draw the composition window then hangs. Expected Results: SM should not hang. I have the Enigmail [1] v0.95.7 extension installed on SeaMonkey and I found this [2] Enigmail bug report against Thunderbird 2.0.0.14 that appears related to this deadlock and, indeed, the crash logs are very similar. However, I'm not sure if this issue is due to an Enigmail, MailNews Core or Leopard bug. On the Enigmail's side of the bug, Patrick Brunschwig wrote [3]: > I have debugged this already a while ago in all details. The problem is that > the locking is in a standard Thunderbird function which is supposed to wait for > the child process to terminate and return the exit code. But somehow on Mac OS > X, that function just waits forever on a semaphore. Unfortunately I don't have > a Mac either, so I can't debug why the semaphore is not released on Mac OS X. I add to the above quote that this issue is Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard only. Given that unfortunately Patrick doesn't have the resources to debug it by himself, if it will turn out to be an Enigmail bug maybe some willing Mozilla community developers could collaborate with him to solve this issue that prevents the safe use of the Enigmail extension with SeaMonkey/Thunderbird on Mac OS X Leopard. The screenshot has been modified to protect my privacy but notice the duplicate and partially overlapped quoted text.

Andrea do you still see this? and can you reproduce started in safe mode? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode

(In reply to comment #8) > Andrea do you still see this? and can you reproduce started in safe mode? As you can see, the original bug report was against SM 1.1.14 and Enigmail 0.95.7. Since that I uninstalled Enigmail to avoid the hangs. Now I'm on SM 1.1.18 and I just noticed the new Enigmail 0.95.6 version [1]. I'll install the new Enigmail on SM 1.1.18 in a few days and let you know if the problem is still reproducible (with Mac OS X 10.5.8 PowerPC). P.S. According to the document you linked, I cannot start SM 1.1.x in safe mode. [1] <http://enigmail.mozdev.org/news/index.php#v0960>

I believe that phrase is misleading. That said, it may be more useful to know whether the problem exists in 2.0 than whether it continues in 1.1. http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/#2.0b2
(In reply to comment #9) > Now I'm on SM 1.1.18 and I just noticed the new Enigmail 0.95.6 version [1]. Sorry, I confused the version numbers, the new version is 0.96.0. (In reply to comment #10) > I believe that phrase is misleading. Which phrase? Could you elaborate? > That said, it may be more useful to know > whether the problem exists in 2.0 than whether it continues in 1.1. I'll check it too.
(In reply to comment #11) > (In reply to comment #10) > > I believe that phrase is misleading. > > Which phrase? That safe-mode works in SM 2.0, but doesn't state it works in SM 1.1
I cannot reproduce the issue anymore with SeaMonkey 1.1.18 [1] (started normally, not in safe mode), Enigmail 0.96.0 [2] and Mac OS X 10.5.8 [3]. I'll switch to SM 2.0 and report back in the next days. [1] Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; it-IT; rv:1.8.1.23) Gecko/20090823 SeaMonkey/1.1.18 [2] Enigmail 0.96.0 (20090717-0949) [3] Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L31a)
I cannot reproduce the issue with SeaMonkey 2.0 [1], the last Enigmail 0.97b nightly build [2] and Mac OS X 10.5.8 [3]. Marking as resolved. [1] Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.1.4) Gecko/20091017 SeaMonkey/2.0 [2] Enigmail 0.97b (20091103-1701) [3] Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L31a)
