Completly reworked the patch and made it iPhone-ready, see:

I also tried to reuse bespin.util.webpieces as much as possible, and had to modify it at several places to make that possible (e.g. disconnecting popup close events). I introduced the distinction between modal / non-modal popup and have chosen non-modal popup as the default (UI experts don't like modal dialogs).
