User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.6) Gecko/2009011913 Firefox/3.0.6 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) Build Identifier: 3.06 A space before a period at the end of a line causes the period and all the remaining lines to disappear when the recipient receives their email. It happens in text only or in html and text. This is a major bug!!! It may be related to bug 445390. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Type a message with a space before the period at the end of the first line: xxxx . yyyy 2.Send message Actual Results: xxxx Note: All the remaining lines have disappeared including the period. Expected Results: xxxx . yyyy I'm currently using version 3.06. It may be related to bug 445390 reported in 2008-07-15 using version 2.0.0.14. This is a major bug since neither the sender or recipient have any warning that the rest of the message has disappeared. It could be exploited as a security scam, with the sender claiming he sent the whole message if he knows that a space before a period at the end of a line causes the remaining lines to disappear.
The following 2 line message is a particular situation where the second line disappears: http://www.ridebooker.com/blog/whistler-winter-driving-do-i-need-snow-tires . http://www.transportationwhistler.com/content/whistler-car-hire-rental-summer-good-winter-bad The simple example I gave before is wrong.
Maybe the disappearing 2nd line in this case only occurs after a first line of specific length.
my understanding is that the pop3 server is not supposed to return a line with a single period on it, i.e., ".<CRLF> - that indicates the end of message. It's supposed to turn ".<CRLF>" into "..<CRLF>".
what pop3 server is this?
The pop server is pop3.dccnet.com
If I add the following long 3 lines the problem of the disappearing 2nd url does not occur. It's a puzzle!! xxxxxxxxx1xxxxxxxxx1xxxxxxxxx1xxxxxxxxx1xxxxxxxxx1xxxxxxxxx1xxxxxxxx1xxxxxxxxx1 xxxxxxxxx1xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx . yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy http://www.ridebooker.com/blog/whistler-winter-driving-do-i-need-snow-tires . http://www.transportationwhistler.com/content/whistler-car-hire-rental-summer-good-winter-bad
Works for me. Is this thought to be a very recent regression? I have sent MANY emails with lines that end with ' .' and have never had any trouble. It seems most likely a server problem to me. I also doubt that this is an exploitable security vulnerability.

I also also often leave a space before a period at the end of a url so that the url is clickable and that has always worked for me except for the specific two line message above in comment #1 with the long urls.
A message with the same two lines of urls do not cause a problem with Outlook Express so the problem must be within Thunderbird.
The 2nd URL line disappears only if the 2 lines are copied and pasted unformated.
The behaviour in Outlook Express is different. Only the period after the space in the first line disappears. The second line is intact.
This sounds like a bug in the SMTP-server (or maybe some antivirus/spam is doing something, when you're sending). Which version are you running? Thunderbird 2.0.0.19, 3.0b2 or nightly? Can you supply SMTP and POP3 logs? https://wiki.mozilla.org/MailNews:Logging
Component: Mail Window Front End → Networking: SMTP

It's Thunderbird 2.0.0.19 (20081209)
The second line in comment #1 no longer disappears in Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 (20090812). My pop3 server may have changed since dccnet.com was recently bought by eastlink.ca . This bug may be closed
