NYTimes website doesn't load on M17 and dailies (at least) before 8/6.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Try above URL.
2. View the source.
Actual Results: Page doesn't load, i.e. screen stays blank. Source code is
cropped in between the META description and the META keywords. This would
explain why nothing shows up.
Expected Results: My daily dose of news. :)
What does work:
1. Load instead: http://nytimes.com/

I must revise my ending comments: http://nytimes.com/ may or may not load.
Now, it is not.

Tried on build 20000808.
Steps to reproduce.
1. Delete .mozilla directory
2. Open URL http://www.nytimes.com/ Notice that page loads fine.
3. Bookmark page.
4. Close mozilla
5. Reopen mozilla
6. Double-click on bookmark: notice that page fails to load as previously
described.
7. Or, type in URL and also notice that page fails to load.
Notice also that mozilla gives the following error (on console):
Document: Done (0.744 secs)
Error getting url widget service: TypeError: Components.classes[progid] has no
properties
Document http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ loaded successfully

I can't reproduce on Linux 2000080804.
Brian: Perhaps this has nothing to do with it, but from where did you pick the
bookmark from in step 6?
[Linux2.2.15-i686-smp, 2000080910]
I did the following:
launched mozilla
loaded http://www.nytimes.com/ --> OK
right-mouse-click --> View Page Source --> OK
Bookmarked page
restarted mozilla
loaded http://www.nytimes.com/ --> OK
enabled mem cache, reloaded page --> OK
enabled disk cache, reloaded page --> OK
right-mouse-click --> View Page Source --> OK
restarted mozilla
loaded http://www.nytimes.com/ --> OK
right-mouse-click --> View Page Source --> OK
(and yes, this page takes ages to load...)

In the 2000080816 daily the problem as I stated it in the procedure did not
exist, but I wanted to wait on another build to see if what I saw was a fluke.
It wasn't, so here's what I'm doing: (a revised procedure)
Steps to reproduce: (2000080910)
1. rm -rf ~/.mozilla
2. Start with a fresh tarball.
3. run mozilla
4. Go to the URL: http://www.nytimes.com/ (page should load, even though slow)
5. Click on the Bookmarks menu (at the top) and select Add Current Page.
6. close mozilla
7. run mozilla
8. double-click on the newly created bookmark in the sidebar. (page should
again load).
9. now that the bookmark is highlighted, right-click on it and select New
Folder.
10. Type in "News" for a name. click okay.
11. Using the sidebar, drag the New York Times bookmark into the News folder.
12. Click on the triangle beside the folder to expand it.
13. Close mozilla.
14. run mozilla
15. Double-click on the bookmark, which should now be beneath the News folder.
16. At this point, nothing happens. Select View:Page Source, and note that the
page source is truncated as previously described.
(optional) 17. Type in URL: http://nytimes.com/ into URL box. (It should load
the page.) Then clicking on the bookmark again brings up the blank page.
I apologize that this is a long and tedious procedure, and it can probably be
shortened, but it seems to reproduce the error reliably. On some builds, one
does not even have to create the News folder and nest the bookmark, but that
seems to be fixed in the more recent ones. The nested bookmark is still a
problem...but only for certain sites. www.nytimes.com is the only one that I
have encountered so far.
I will continue to re-evaluate the bug on new builds as they are available.
Thanks.
Note: If you don't close and re-open mozilla, you won't see the problem. I
tried the procedure without all the close and re-open business, and it still
works (i.e. the bug appears) as long as you close and re-open mozilla the last
time.

The problem didn't show up in an 8/15/2000 build. I'm closing it out and
keeping my eyes peeled. Marking WORKSFORME.

I had closed this bug out because it worked for me in a recent build, but later
I found out that the same end result (www.nytimes.com not loading) appearing
after just having the bookmark in my bookmarks menu for a while, though I can't
claim any type of reproducibility. Most recently, I have tried my last
procedure on Linux build 2000082208, and the bug appeared.

Reassigning 79 Bookmarks bugs to Ben. I was told this was going to be done
shortly about two months ago, but it clearly hasn't been. I think that's long
enough for all these bugs to remain assigned to nobody.
