User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; fr-FR; rv:1.9.0.7) Gecko/2009030503 Fedora/3.0.7-1.fc10 Firefox/3.0.7 Build Identifier: Thunderbird version 2.0.0.21 (20090320) While : 1/ It worked fine up to yesterday noon, 2/ It works fine for other IMAP servers, 3/ The imap.free.fr server works fine with webmail, telnet and evolution, it appears that thunderbird fails to retrieve mails and folders from imap.free.fr. No error message in the error console, no timeout. Just a quick attempt to connect then nothing else. Deleting the account, restarting thunderbird and recreate a new account doesn't help. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Set up an IMAP account with a Free (the French ISP) email account. 2.Try to retrieve mails. 3.Do not enjoy. Actual Results: Nothing. Everythings seems fine except that thunderbird don't show any emails (and any folders if you recreated the account). Expected Results: One should be able to read emails and receive new ones. Happens for me on two different linux configurations, two different computers from two different locations. Also happen to a Windows Vista user, see http://www.geckozone.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=508996
Oh : and creating a new profile doesn't help either. Nor do changing the secured connexion parameters (TLS will fail with a "Please login first" message (and a "Warning: more than one line!" in the terminal, but I'm not sure this is related).
Can you provide imap logs as described at : https://wiki.mozilla.org/MailNews:Logging ?
Here it is, I created a new profile and just tried one connection. BTW, I found two other people affected (hope they will comment here). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -1301890160[92ee4c0]: ImapThreadMainLoop entering [this=93532f0] -1208891616[881d978]: 93532f0:imap.free.fr:NA:SetupWithUrl: clearing IMAP_CONNECTION_IS_OPEN -1301890160[92ee4c0]: 93532f0:imap.free.fr:NA:ProcessCurrentURL: entering -1301890160[92ee4c0]: 93532f0:imap.free.fr:NA:ProcessCurrentURL:imap://lecotegougdelaforce@imap.free.fr:143/select%3E%5EINBOX: = currentUrl -1301890160[92ee4c0]: ReadNextLine [stream=92cc5c0 nb=82 needmore=0] -1301890160[92ee4c0]: 93532f0:imap.free.fr:NA:CreateNewLineFromSocket: * OK [CAPABILITY IMAP4REV1 X-NETSCAPE LOGIN-REFERRALS AUTH=LOGIN] IMAP4rev1 Free -1301890160[92ee4c0]: 93532f0:imap.free.fr:NA:SendData: 1 capability -1301890160[92ee4c0]: ReadNextLine [stream=92cc5c0 nb=152 needmore=0] -1301890160[92ee4c0]: 93532f0:imap.free.fr:NA:CreateNewLineFromSocket: * CAPABILITY IMAP4REV1 X-NETSCAPE NAMESPACE MAILBOX-REFERRALS SCAN SORT THREAD=REFERENCES THREAD=ORDEREDSUBJECT MULTIAPPEND LOGIN-REFERRALS AUTH=LOGIN -1301890160[92ee4c0]: ReadNextLine [stream=92cc5c0 nb=16 needmore=0] -1301890160[92ee4c0]: 93532f0:imap.free.fr:NA:CreateNewLineFromSocket: 1 OK Completed -1301890160[92ee4c0]: 93532f0:imap.free.fr:NA:SendData: 2 authenticate login -1301890160[92ee4c0]: ReadNextLine [stream=92cc5c0 nb=16 needmore=0] -1301890160[92ee4c0]: 93532f0:imap.free.fr:NA:CreateNewLineFromSocket: + VXNlcm5hbWU6 -1301890160[92ee4c0]: 93532f0:imap.free.fr:NA:SendData: Logging suppressed for this command (it probably contained authentication information) -1301890160[92ee4c0]: ReadNextLine [stream=92cc5c0 nb=0 needmore=1] -1301890160[92ee4c0]: ReadNextLine [stream=92cc5c0 nb=4294967295 needmore=0] -1301890160[92ee4c0]: 93532f0:imap.free.fr:NA:CreateNewLineFromSocket: clearing IMAP_CONNECTION_IS_OPEN - rv = 80470002 -1301890160[92ee4c0]: 93532f0:imap.free.fr:NA:TellThreadToDie: close socket connection -1301890160[92ee4c0]: 93532f0:imap.free.fr:NA:CreateNewLineFromSocket: (null) -1301890160[92ee4c0]: 93532f0:imap.free.fr:NA:SendData: clearing IMAP_CONNECTION_IS_OPEN -1301890160[92ee4c0]: 93532f0:imap.free.fr:NA:TellThreadToDie: close socket connection -1301890160[92ee4c0]: 93532f0:imap.free.fr:NA:SendData: clearing IMAP_CONNECTION_IS_OPEN -1301890160[92ee4c0]: 93532f0:imap.free.fr:NA:TellThreadToDie: close socket connection -1301890160[92ee4c0]: 93532f0:imap.free.fr:NA:ProcessCurrentURL: aborting queued urls -1301890160[92ee4c0]: ImapThreadMainLoop leaving [this=93532f0] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have the same problem before 24/03/09. When I open TB, I have this message :"impossible to connect to server imap.free.fr" I can't to read and to receive my mail with TB.
Same issue with thunderbird 3beta2.
Version: unspecified → 1.9.1 Branch
David if needed I can provide credentials for a imap account there.
Well, I just got all my mails back in thunderbird. However, it might be worth contacting Free in order to check if it was a misconfiguration on their side (say a dumb filter on the client mailer ? Weird…) or a particular configuration which thunderbird doesn't handle correctly for whatever reason (I recall that evolution and telnet worked fine). To be more explicit about what I'm thinking about : Ekiga has been confronted to such a case from Free a while ago (not sure it is still valid), see for instance here : http://www.freephonie.org/doku/tutoriel:ekiga (fr). Free's SIP service "freephonie" requests that all communications use the same port, while ekiga was explicitely designed to use several ports.
Version: 1.9.1 Branch → unspecified
Successful logfile. This time the 5 last lines correspond to my leaving thunderbird (while in the previous logfiles it was straight after the retrieving attempt).
duch can you confirm that you got your emails back too ?
looks to me like the logon failed on the server in the failure cases - perhaps something was misconfigured on the server and they've since fixed it.
=> invalid per comment 13 (duchi appears to be gone)
