I have 8.9k links, divided into around 10 top level folders and around a 100 folders within these top folders, some of these top level folders have 300-1000 links in (I use tags to organize these).

Browsing through my links with the bookmarks menu is very sluggish.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open the bookmarks menu (Alt+b)
2.
3.
Actual Results:
Bad performance.

Expected Results:
Good performance.

Good performance.
could you try 3.1 beta and report if that's better?
I have fairly more folders in my bookmarks menu and i see no performance issues.

Have you tried safe mode by chance? an add-on could potentially make your perf worst: http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
btw, i suppose you are talking about time needed to open one of those menus with 1000 items? Is not that number of items hard to manage in a menu?
Yes I'm " talking about time needed to open one of those menus
with 1000 items" :)

The time to open the properties dialog box of a link via the bookmarks menu is also sluggish so this also counts as slow bookmark management via the bookmarks menu.

I'm not a beta tester but will try safe mode later.
In safe mode the menus etc are a bit faster but still slow.
no reasons to stay UNCO, we can try to profile this and see if we can make it faster.

All,

This appears directly tied to SYNC and bookmarks. I used the bookmark manager to organize all my bookmarks on and off line. When online the bookmarks were SIGNIFICANTLY slower. The round trip to update the SYNC database online, pass the changes back and update the local SQL Lite database were terrible. I tried from our 30Mb office network and from my home 10Mb network connection. Both were exactly the same in performance. I went off line. Undocked and no WIFI, and all my changes were fairly instant. With log lists of bookmarks performance was still poor. I had to wait for 5K of book marks to get shuffled around in the SQL lite database. But it didn't hang, report java script performance issues or crash. One thing to note is that there were lots of duplicates from broken SYNC's. I pulled down a DEDUP and URL checker to do the clean up and the number of entries significantly decreased. However I still have a very large number of Unique bookmarks. When shifting that 5K in book marks I found it better to chunk them and move them to a folder. Rather than trying to move the whole list. This may be a memory constraint in the browser for SQL lite or something in SQL lite it's self.

I'm running FF:23.0.1 on I7 64bit @ 2.9GHZ, windows 7 pro, 8GB ram, and 256GB SSD. So machine performance is not an issue.
I don't use bookmark syncing, but I find the menu very slow. -- opening, and scrolling are both very sluggish. (I do have tons of bookmarks.)
