In some companies Developer X is responsible for legacy version 2.x, while Developer Y is responsible for the development version 3.x.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. File a bug against a specific version.
Actual Results:  
Only component-wide default assignees available.

Expected Results:  
Version-specific default assignees available, so bugs filed against 2.x get assigned by default to person X while bugs filed against 3.x get assigned by default to person Y.

I must admit that I have no idea how to create a useful UI for this that doesn't look like on crack.
I can understand if this will be a WONTFIX, but I think there's definitely a lot of bigger companies out there having different maintainers as per different versions/branches.

I've searched for dups but this looks different from bug 55970 and bug 79964.

Yes, the branching (sightings) system would handle this requirement.
