Firefox was able to retain my old bookmarks and I was even able to import the bookmarks from Safari, however now with the beta version I am unable to add any new bookmarks by clicking Bookmarks > Bookmark This Page.
If I try to organize the bookmarks, firefox freezes and I have to force quit. 
Any suggestions?!?

Reproducible: Always

Actual Results:  
no addition of bookmark, not even able to manually type it in, or firefox freezes.

Expected Results:  
given option of there the bookmark would go, i.e. bar or menu. it doesn't show up in either.

I have the SAME issue, difference my computer(MBP 10.5.7) doesn't freeze.
This is UNACCEPTABLY bad! How was this released to the general public?!

I even erased my precious cache and history to no avail

this is most likely due to:
- an add-on. you can temporarly disable all add-ons running the browser in safe mode (see http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode)
- your bookmarks database is corrupt, you can try creating a new profile (http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Profile+New) and then restoring bookmarks from the old profile. If this works you can send us places.sqlite file to look into by mail.

It's definitely not an add-on since I've already tried safe mode I'll try the new BM profile when I get a chance. Thank you

Alright the new profile works but how can I import the old BkMrks from the original profile? I'm attaching the places.sqlite as per Marco's request.

i suggest to zip places.sqlite and send it BY MAIL, for privacy reasons.

you should go to the library (Bookmarks/Organize Bookmarks), choose Import & Backup/Restore/Choose File... go to the old profile folder and select a .json bookmarks backup file from bookmarksBackup folder.

I received your database, it is badly corrupt, most likely due to a crash or unclean shutdown, since this is real database corruptions.
There's no easy fix for that rather then deleting the db and let Firefox build a new one (or use a new profile). That will cause you to lose history though.
There's not yet automatic path to detect this corruption, since doing the check is slow.

I'm using the new profile w/ an imported .json backup. I've already erased my history and cache thinking it would help. At this point I'll be happy w/ my BMs and add-ons. I guess I'll zip up the old profile and keep it in case I need something. Marco, you've been very very helpful! I'm fine losing history so long as I can keep the majority of my stuff. I'm currently recollecting my add-ons. If there's anything else you can recommend I do, I'm open to suggestions.

duping to bug 464486, this is db corruption.
I can't recommend more than what i said, atm we don't have a good tool to recover from these situations, we will most likely build one.
