See the attached image.
This helps with quick recognition of which tab is which. Especially helps when a lot of the pages are similarly laid out, or are primarily text on a white background.

Are you sure about this? Just seems to add noise, especially with the (x) close image in there too. BTW, the close image seems to be on the left side of the thumbnail now, not on the bottom.

No - not actually sure about it -- I think I flipped the wanted flag by mistake. It's more a thing to explore - wanted to get a bug open for it.

For the newtab add-on, we found that adding a favicon helped site-recognition, but we ended up not having thumbnails for most entries.
