We should enable opening multiple websites (multiple tabs) from locationbar using |.
Typing "http://bugzilla.mozilla.org|http://www.mozilla.org|http://developers.mozilla.org" and hitting Enter should open 3 tabs with b.m.o., mozilla.org and MDC.

So why does separating different homepages by | work then?

Because that was a poor technical choice, made without a lot of forethought. It's caused lots of problems in the past. This would break copy/pasting URLs that rely on that character.
