1) install netscape6 and try to choose any profile in the profile manager or
click create new profile.
Boom netscape 6 crashes.
2) if you click on the netscape6 icon and try to skip the activation pane
netscape6 crashes again.
This has to be looked into ASAP.

Henrik,
You have win2000- is it professional version? I cannot duplicate this mozilla
or commercial.
nitinp, what do you mean by 'skip activation'? Do you cancel? Where do you
crash in profile manager- create button or into wizard itself? Please provide
build number.

changing component - don't think it is installation problem, reassigning,
changing QA contact
Bhuvan,
not sure is this is you or Ben, please change if required

No changes went into profile manager yesterday (except for ben's small change
for delete button). This got to be some other component used by profile manager.
We need stack trace here...
I will get one from SeanSu's machine and see what's going and who needs to
own it....?
just kicked off build on win2000.. It's going to take a while.
Meanwhile, Grace tells me that she couldn't reproduce it on her win2000
professional version machine. Grace, if you have tried custom install only, you
might want to a do a typical install also and see if that makes any difference
(I don't expect as all profile files are tied with core package).
As this is happening only on win2000 and not reproducible and most people build
on NT, I am removing the keyword smoketest. I will look into it anyway (still
waiting for the debug build).

I just checked on win2000 debug build. I am not able to reproduce the behavior
described in this bug.
Also, I downloaded the latest build and tried to reproduce the bug, I couldn't.
Marking as worksforme.

I'm having the same problem with W2K. I've setup up my user as Administrator
so Netscape can write to the registry. This still does not work. Everytime
I select the netscape icon it ask to enter a new profile. The User registry
entries are not being added to the registry. I manually tried to add the user
in the registry, but it appears that my syntax for the value field is
incorrect. With this manual entry in the registry Netscape complains that it
cannot find the profile directory. When I manually browse to the profile
directory netscape crashes

Scott, do you know the build number of the program this is happening with? When
you say the registry, are you referring to the Windows registry or mozilla's
registry file?

I have found the following, which seems to relate:
W2K Pro machine in a domain which uses group policies to map profile data
information to a UNC (no mapped drives, etc.) Trying to launch NS6 or M0.7
results in a quick flash of the splash screen and then nothing.
Upon opening the Profile Manager, no default profiles exist. Click Create
Profile and Next. Instead of the path to the profile displaying under the "User
Settings" text, the space is blank. You can browse to the directory you want
the settings in, but even after clicking OK, the space does not display the
path to the user settings. Select the Region and click OK. At this point NS6
and M0.7 differ. M0.7 will allow you start Mozilla, but after exiting the
profile does not exist. With NS6, I have found that it either crashes before
completion of the profile creation, or when you click on the Start Netscape 6
button in the Profile Manager. In both instances, although the profile may be
serialized on disk, it is not indicated in the Profile Manager.
One further note: if I log in as the LOCAL administrator (ie non-Domain) on the
same machine (one which uses local paths for the profile data), none of these
issues exists at all...

A UNC? Can you explain?
> You can browse to the directory you want the settings in, but even after
> clicking OK, the space does not display the path to the user settings.
What *should* the path have been - wondering if there's an unexpected path
format that's choking us here...

>> If, for example, I browsed to D:\ns6\profiles, and click OK, I expect this
to show up as the path. Instead it shows up blank, no matter what...

Is this still happening? I can't reproduce.

Can anybody with such a setup reproduce?

I cannot reproduce either-
tested as local user(no admin privileges) on Win2k machine, am able to create
new profiles and launch. I believe registry is being written to.
Directory paths(default or custom) do show in Create Wizard (there was bug on
that some time ago, may be when this was filed)
