I spent a few hours yesterday guessing what's wrong with my signed XPI - signtool was displaying that the certificate is valid, zigbert.rsa was the first file in the archive and Firefox (even the debug build) wasn't showing any warnings whatsoever. Still, it would continue to display "Author not verified". Only after inserting debugging code into CertReader.cpp did I find out that the error was SEC_ERROR_OCSP_SERVER_ERROR - not quite unexpected given that I was off-line. Such hacks shouldn't be necessary, there should be an informational message in error console on signature validation errors.
