User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.0.11) Gecko/2009061208 Iceweasel/3.0.9 (Debian-3.0.9-1) Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686 (x86_64); en-US; rv:1.9.1) Gecko/20090624 Firefox/3.5 The page background for most websites is not drawn correctly if my desktop is running at 24 bpp. Everything is fine at 16 bpp. (I cannot test 32 bpp since the chipset graphics on this GA-EG45M-DS2H motherboard does not support it.) The symptom is that the *background* portion of the page appears to be redrawn at the wrong x/y offsets. The foreground text and images are displayed correctly. The actual error in the offsets seems to remain constant during each redraw event, but changes between redraw events. This means that in a newly opened page, or one that is redrawn completely because I minimize/un-minimize the browser window, the entire background seems shifted. However, whenever only a part of the page is redrawn (e.g. when scrolling, or when I click on a link, or once a tooltip opens and disappears; even on pages that do not use JavaScript), then only that part of the page is redrawn with different background offsets. Over time, this can cause the page to look very "corrupted" and unreadable, since redraw events happen all the time on hovering over elements etc. I have a single-monitor setup. While playing around with my xorg.conf, I got the impression that the problem was less pronounced when the "Virtual" screen area was smaller, but I'm not sure of this. Currently it is at 1280x1024, which is the resolution of my TFT monitor. I had this problem with FF 3.0 (actually Debian's iceweasel) as well, but it is also present in the official 3.5 release. I might actually switch to another browser before long - this bug is really a pain! Thanks for your work! Reproducible: Always
I opened the page, then hovered over the link. The link was redrawn with a white background. Also the tooltip opened. I moved the mouse pointer right to make the tooltip appear elsewhere, this also cause the area around the word "kompakt" to be redrawn.
Sounds like bug 411831. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=411831#c116 Workaround set xorg.conf Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" "on"
Hooray - you are right, it is! Many thanks for the hint!! It was necessary for me to use the following two entries in the Device section of xorg.conf. The XAANoOffscreenPixmaps alone would not fix the problem: Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" "on" Option "RenderAccel" "on"
