User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.11) Gecko/2009060308 Ubuntu/9.04 (jaunty) Firefox/3.0.11 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.11) Gecko/2009060308 Ubuntu/9.04 (jaunty) Firefox/3.0.11 After setting browser.urlbar.clickSelectsAll to true in about:config, the address bar exhibits strange behavior if Firefox has been left idle for a while. The address functions normally at first. After leaving Firefox idle for a while, 5 to 10 minutes is usually sufficient, clicking the address bar will select the entire address, but typing results in only a few characters being typed at best, highlighted, then overwritten by subsequent keystrokes. Typing random letters extremely rapidly and filling 10 or so letters seems to overtake this problem briefly. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Set browser.urlbar.clickSelectsAll to true 2. Leave Firefox alone and running for a period of time, 10 minutes or so. 3. Click in the address bar and type a new address Actual Results: Only a few letters are typed, highlighted, then overwritten by next character typed. Expected Results: Should be able to type address completely This has been tested on multiple machines running Ubuntu Fiesty and Jaunty. Have not tried with other versions of Linux.

Maybe linux only? I have always had that pref set this way and I've never seen this. Does this happen with Firefox 3.0.11 or 3.5? I seen you changed it to 3.5 but I just want to make sure. If 3.5, did you see this with 3.0.11 also?
From private email: "As far as I can tell, this is a Linux only problem. These settings are the default behavior for Window and Mac and they don't seem to exhibit this problem. As far as version, I have tested it on Linux Mint using version 3.0.11 and do not get this problem, so maybe it is a 3.5 problem only. Not sure if it has anything to do with Ubuntu or not. Let me know if I can be of any assistance in testing and troubleshooting." Danny, please keep responses to bugzilla so everyone can read them. Also, does this happen in safe mode?

Sorry, new at this. Haven't tried in safe mode. I will try and report.
Tried in safe mode, same result.
I can't seem to reproduce this spent around an hour or two with a browser open for 5-20 mins or so idle, - 3.5.1 - linux, and it behaved as expected. Can you try with 3.5.1?
Resolving as WFM since no one else could reproduce this. Danny, please reopened if you can still reproduce this using Firefox 3.5.2. You may want to try support.mozilla.org instead to get live chat support.

I'm able to reproduce this behaviour. I've been having this problem for quite some time. It does not always happen after the same amount of time. The timing seems to be quite random.
By the way, I am using Firefox 3.5.3 which shipped with Ubuntu Karmic Beta.
