Just curious, what were you viewing before you closed? Was it a flash thing?
Yes, considering the given uptime before the crash of 43945s (~12h) i waded through my history and found three flash involing sites: http://whos.amung.us/firefox/ http://www.bild.de/BILD/politik/2009/07/08/atomausstieg/die-7-wahrheiten-ueber-unsere-energie.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLAAKO3iK7I&feature=topvideos but i didn't browse any of those sites close before i shut down Fx and the crash happened but rather several minutes/hours before. so i doubt that you can derive anything from these particular sites regarding the crash. i presume it's a "user has visited a flash involed site during browsing session and flash plugin made Fx crash during shutdown" thingy regardless when the user visited that site =).
Yeah, sounds like it. Was just curious if this was immediately before Firefox closed, or a bit before (more then 2 pages before). Might have been interesting.
i am also getting ramdom crashes at shutdown using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2a1pre) Gecko/20090714 Minefield/3.6a1pre (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) ID:20090714054201 bp-7575eb84-9b1e-4a46-b2a2-090e92090714 bp-bb448424-92ad-4876-a499-2cfc72090715
I have submitted a bug on ntdll.dll, but with other address, but good reproducible: bug 504416. See further bug: 500575.
@Lucas: the crashes you mention in those bugs are not related to the Adobe Flash Plugin (NPSWF32.dll) but rather others. furthermore this one is happening explicit while shutting down the plugin instance and differs from other Flash related crashes which happen *while* you are viewing at a certain flash object. FWIW, i *presume* it's caused by some recent changes in CORE:Plugins on trunk like http://preview.tinyurl.com/m43o5f
Okay, thanks for the info. The site in bug 504416 crashes, when you leave the page. That is indeed not the same as shutting down. I am looking in the source. It does contain a little flash, javascript and a bunch of .gif and .jpg files. I can't see much more, but I will look at it closer, next week.
are we confirming here that this is indeed not a Flash Player issue?
(In reply to comment #8) > are we confirming here that this is indeed not a Flash Player issue? Yes, but it's unclear exactly how to reproduce it. Charles, can you investigate?
i wonder if the crash in the flash plugin happened due to changed loading/unloading strategy of plugins in general (see landings in range mentioned in comment 6) and if the flash plugin just isn't designed to expect this (changed) behavior?!
We are not testing 3.6 here yet. If you could confirm this on a released build that would be helpful.
