On the mozilla main page (or any other) drag and drop the Firefox 3.5 logo to the Mac OS X desktop (Finder).  Then select the graphic file and choose "Get Info". More info for this will show: "dimensions: 400 x 105", but not the url.  By comparison, Safari will fill the "More Info" field with: http://www.mozilla.org/img/tignish/home/feature-logo.png

This is far more useful for being able to go back and answer the question, "Where DID I get that picture?", and in particular, this feature of Safari is supported in HyperStudio 5.0 for the Mac for the purposes of automatically creating attributions for Creative Commons for graphic images found on the web.

This is an important function in the use of media, and shouldn't be lacking in Firefox compared to Safari.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Drag a graphic image to the desktop.
2.Select the file on the desktop.
3.Press Cmd-I for "Get Info"
4. Look at the More Info field in the information window.
Actual Results:  
Images dragged with Firefox only shows the image size, and the last time the file was opened.

Expected Results:  
Safari is much more useful with recording the url of the graphic, which it also passes to other applications, such as HyperStudio 5.0 for the Mac, where that program can in turn put the url in the "Comments and Attributions" field for the graphic within a HyperStudio project file.

In the very old days, url information was automatically saved with image files when downloaded, and Safari still does this.  Unfortunately Firefox doesn't which means that if you ever want to go back and see where an image came from, the information is lost forever.

This file saved in Safari properly includes the source url for the image, and Safari also passes this same information to other applications so that those applications can recognize the source url of the image.  (See HyperStudio 5.0 for Macintosh).

No, this is bug 337051 (drag-and-drop vs. downloading may require additional work, but kMDWhereFrom is definitely bug 337051).
