Non-gnome window manager?
I'm using compiz(0.8.2) as wm, and have the same problem. x86 Linux, Gnome desktop, Debian unstable+experimental.

(In reply to comment #2) > I'm using compiz(0.8.2) as wm, and have the same problem. > > x86 Linux, Gnome desktop, Debian unstable+experimental. I downgraded pango from 1.24.4-1 to 1.24.3-1. This problem is not reproducible any more. Pango may be related to this.

There was only one bug fix in pango 1.24.4, which is http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=586814. So it is probably related to the fix in that bug.

Hard to believe, I can reproduce our https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=513675 with these packages easily: bradford:~$ rpm -qa \*firefox\* \*thunderbird\* \*pango\* \*xulrunner\* \*cairo\* cairo-1.8.8-1.fc11.x86_64 pango-1.24.5-1.fc11.x86_64 xulrunner-devel-unstable-1.9.1.1-1.fc11.x86_64 pycairo-devel-1.8.2-2.fc11.x86_64 thunderbird-3.0-2.4.b3pre.hg.6a6386c16e98.fc11.x86_64 xulrunner-1.9.1.1-1.fc11.x86_64 cairo-devel-1.8.8-1.fc11.x86_64 xulrunner-devel-1.9.1.1-1.fc11.x86_64 pango-debuginfo-1.24.5-1.fc11.x86_64 pangomm-2.24.0-1.fc11.x86_64 firefox-debuginfo-3.5.1-1.fc11.x86_64 cairo-1.8.8-1.fc11.i586 firefox-3.5.1-1.fc11.x86_64 pango-1.24.5-1.fc11.i586 cairomm-1.8.0-1.fc11.x86_64 cairo-debuginfo-1.8.8-1.fc11.x86_64 xulrunner-debuginfo-1.9.1.1-1.fc11.x86_64 xulrunner-python-devel-1.9.1.1-1.fc11.x86_64 xulrunner-python-1.9.1.1-1.fc11.x86_64 pango-devel-1.24.5-1.fc11.x86_64 pycairo-1.8.2-2.fc11.x86_64 bradford:~$

My firefox stopped spamming too... Name : firefox Version : 3.5.1-1 Name : pango Version : 1.24.5-1 Name : pangomm Version : 2.24.0-1 Name : cairomm Version : 1.8.2-1 Name : pycairo Version : 1.8.6-1 Other stuff you listed not installed, xul builtin, using X86_64 too. [2009-07-19 16:24] upgraded pycairo (1.8.4-1 -> 1.8.6-1) (Me know nothing - going to try and downgrade if noone figures it out while I'm unable to reboot anyway...)
