http://www-stage.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/ has %%SUNBIRD-VERSION%%, which means it hasn't yet been hooked up to product-details, or something similar.

This is probably because we got rid of VARIABLES...

I don't think we've gotten rid of VARIABLES yet.  It's in the SVN repository.

The bug to remove VARIABLES (bug 477085) is also still open although it could be out of date at this point.
