Is this susceptible to automated testing? docshell is already test-poor and it would be really nice to get tests for this before approving on the branch.

1.9.2 approval for this expires at the end of the day (15 Dec) due to code freeze plans -- please land as soon as possible; if it bounces, it bounces hard.

This is on top of bug 482985, which hasn't landed on 1.9.2 yet, and it looks like it won't.
