Lots of Firefox users (especially Japanese people?) encounter crash and/or hang with the Trend Micro Toolbar installed. It should be blocklisted.

Cheng will check this out and we'll act on it next week.
Any updates on this?

Cheng - any update?
Oh yeah sorry... bug 511756 essentially covers everything.
Any updates here? Bug 511756 Comment 2 and Comment 22 shows some Japanese top sites including Yahoo! JAPAN, Rakuten and Nico Nico Douga, and some users still report crashes at the MozillaZine.jp Forum. Please blocklist the plug-in ASAP.

is this still a problem ? Not sure if we see this problem still in the crashstats ? Chofmann do you know ?
As I wrote in Bug 511756 Comment 51, the crash hot-fix has been available from Trend Micro. It's an opt-in patch; we heard their auto update would be live at the end of June.

Unfortunately, the hot-fix does not bump the version number of the add-on, just replacing a problematic dll instead. So, for now, it's difficult to blocklist the add-on by a specific version.

We are promoting the hot-fix on our Mozilla Japan site/blog, and some users already have installed it. Trend's upcoming auto update will resolve this problem.

WONTFIX?
The crash rate is dropping:

the availability of the trend micro hot fix doesn't seem to have had a significant affect on the daily crash volume. still running 2200-2400 crashes per day.

the ramp up to around 1200 reports per day happened quickly in mid august last year so it sounds like it takes an update like that for trend micro users to move to new releases/fixes, unless there are other bugs in the _woutput signature that we haven't diagnosed.

is there any way that we can get the trend micro team to move quicker with the planned rollout in june given the volume of these crashes?

Thank you for the analysis. We'll ask the Trend team about that.
