well, if i get my way in bug 32494, the menu should dismiss with mouse-up on a disabled item.

Depends on: 32494
well, if i get my way in bug 32494, then we'll still need to fix this on windows.
I don't think this depends on 32494. Moving my relevant comments from there to the correct bug: I've tried "standard" menus under NT and 2000, as well as the "menus" that MS has cooked up and included in their new apps. Never does releasing over a disabled menu item dismiss the menu. Things behave properly as they are on Windows. Fix this on other platforms, but leave Windows alone.
Windows-only. Pink, I'd like to take this one. Should we also be looking at the fact that if, in Windows, you press the accelerator for a disable menu then the menu is closed? Should be able to do both at one time.
Note to self: looked through nsMenuFrame, nsPopupSetFrame, nsMenuPopupFrame,nsMenuDismissalListener, nsMenuBarListener, and nsMenuListener, and couldn't find anything that was causing the menu item to unhighlight.
Or I didn't look well enough or "Show Images" has disappeared from 1.8beta?
